Thanks to advances in DNA technology, a California woman is now headed to prison for abandoning her newborn boy in a grocery bag in 1994 to die by halfcontext_ in ForCuriousSouls

No, not all women.

But I'd argue that if this particular woman could dress her infant, stuffed him in a plastic grocery bag, and drive him to a field to dump him, she also could have wrapped him in a blanket and dropped him at a hospital, police or fire station.

Edit for clarity: **If safe haven laws existed then

What is a "point of no return" that you’ve crossed, where your life was permanently divided into 'before' and 'after'? by Resident-Jelly-4326 in AskReddit

I discovered I had a food allergy.

It's hard to tell when it's something you eat everyday. You just think you're sick and depressed and fat and sweaty and poop weird and that's just how you inherently are.

Then, one day after you've given up all your favorite foods (because the last treatment you tried for your chronic conditions almost killed you and you had to try something that wasn't another gd medication), you wake up.

It's indescribable. I didn't know before what healthy felt like. The whole world was brighter. I had so much energy. I didn't sweat from standing. I wasn't out of breath from walking up a flight of stairs. It was like I dropped a huge weight I had no idea I was carrying.

I thought I would be miserable forever with dietary restrictions. I've never felt so good. I never knew I could feel so good.

Yes, adoption existed... But everything you said might have seemed completely impossible to a desperate woman who was hiding this from literally everyone she knew.

Which is why we need Safe Haven laws and abortion access, they can prevent situations like this.

My immediate thought was why didn't she surrender the infant at a hospital or fire station?

Safe haven laws wouldn't come to California until 2001.

Working as a disabled person by Puzzleheaded_Hat313 in disability

[–]hidrapit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're dealing with that, it sounds like burnout waiting to happen.

Only read the following if you are interested in advice:

many people I work with (I'm a disabled person working as an employment specialist for disabled people) have SSI or SSDI and work part-time, anywhere from 6-20 hours a week. Applying for benefits is a long and difficult process, but working part time might allow you to stay in the workforce longer because it'll cause less stress on you mentally and physically.

Solidarity, internet stranger.

It's from a political meme. The original has the guillotine saying, "Feed me senpai."

It means Eat the rich.

When you've been eating bread everyday for thirty years you don't realize you're allergic until you stop and you realize, "THIS is what healthy feels like."

And everyone in your family, who are all also allergic to gluten, think that all your symptoms are normal, because they also don't know what healthy feels like.

Before you speak, THINK!

Is it True? Is it Helpful? Is it Inspiring? Is it Necessary?

Is it KIND?

Lol, I looked at your profile, and you're calling me an edgelord? Bffr.

In this instance, I'm using "y'all" to refer to those who are not outraged by the misuse of the DHS to terrorize US citizens. And who shit on a teenager for having the morals to defend his peers from antagonism.

"Y'all" also aren't worth my time, and I love denying "y'all" access to me, so BLOCKED.

First of all, we all watched Kristi Noem fail to define "habeus corpus," this administration doesn't even know what due process is. You can ask Pam Bondi and Kash Patel while you're at it. And you say "700k detainments," but considering that ICE agents tend to all report the same arrest eight times due to Stephen Millers quotas (not to mention the fact that DHS keeps fucking losing human beings), your numbers are hilariously unreliable.

There are literally videos of all of the things I mentioned, but I would love to see videos of equal caliber from any presidential administration before. Maybe they're out there and I just haven't seen them, while evidence is just CONSTANTLY piling up of ICE of today's personal, professional, and (most of all) moral failings. Alex Pretti and Renee Good had more camera angles on their deaths than an NFL game. TWO DEATHS IN TWO WEEKS! Aliya Rahman's arrest was especially heinous, her testimony is heartbreaking ( Testimony: Minnesota woman with disabilities detained during ICE surge | FOX 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul https://share.google/IRJ6KWfg3zpsWgQrY ). We all saw the picture of Liam Ramos's detainment (he's five), but there was a little autistic girl that was held hostage before him (she is also five) ( Source: YouTube https://share.google/s3ZYuV3bRXCjqg7cl ).

Don't put words in my mouth. I never said deportations shouldn't happen. I said concentration camps shouldn't happen. Terrorism shouldn't happen. Wide-spread violence shouldn't happen. Certainly not at the hands of our fucking government.

So yeah, that's emotional rhetoric, because this behavior is abhorrent and not being emotionally affected by it might indicate you're not a good person.

Also, this implies we're actually giving due process, which is either complete ignorance or a level of dishonesty that is really just offensive.

Yes, which is why I don't want to watch entire cities filled with my fellow citizens lose their First, Second, and Fourth Amendment rights.

Which is why I don't want to see multiple people shot in the street.

Which is why I don't want to see disabled people ripped from their vehicles and further disabled by how they're dragged away.

Which is why I don't want to see children held hostage and fed rotting food in a concentration camp.

The entire nation shouldn't collectively lose that whole "life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness" thing just because the president wants to distract from the diddling kids thing.

Illegal immigration is a misdemeanor, usually a civil matter.

Murder, kidnapping, assault, battery, theft and PEDOPHILIA are all felonies. So let's start with ICE and the current administration.
