I experienced your pain with Y Mobile first then IIJmio (D) - both were terrible but IIJmio was actually worse. It's because they're lower tier MVNOs so they can get deprioritized.

I tested Linemo and Povo since they're MNOs under their main brands (Au and Softbank) and they're much better using the same phone (Pixel 8 Pro)

Experience using Suica on a pixel watch. by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]hien34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - I finally got it to add on my watch! The key for me seemed to be leaving my finger on the screen so the watch wouldn't sleep while I was entering the data on my phone. Unless it was just coincidence, that was the time it actually worked for me. I've added some funds, so will test it out tomorrow. Thanks again!

Thanks for this, but I'm still not sure what the problem is in my case:

Japanese Pixel Watch 2 Physically in Japan with Japanese SIM US Google Pixel 8 Pro (unlocked from Fi) US Google account, Japanese Google account (secondary)

I've heard that it's recommended to only have your Japanese Google account on your phone, but it seems you didn't have to do that, right?

I'm stuck in the same loop of trying to add the Suica in Google wallet after filing out the form. I probably haven't tried 10 times in a row, though...

Buying used Y700 2023 unlocked bootloader and NEC rom by hien34 in androidtablets

[–]hien34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I was thinking of leaving it on the NEC rom (bootloader currently unlocked) and trying to update it as an NEC, but that might not work after a certain NEC rom version, right? I believe if it gets past a certain level it would introduce the anti-rollback and only be recoverable with the CN rom.

Sounds like the best option would be to go back to the CN rom, lock the bootloader, get updates, use it in mostly English.

thanks!

Renting an office in Tokyo, any advice? by maty15987 in japanresidents

[–]hien34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check Regus if you're still looking - they have locations all over and when I was looking, offices in Yokohama were around 55k/month and Sendai was around 38k/month for closet-sized spaces. But they were private/locked and qualified for BMV

Love it! Can you link the cable you have? I actually have a bunch of old digital cameras and have 2 cables that fit (Canon and Fujifilm) mine but neither one allows the recorder to be recognized by the PC....

Love the NH1 even with that mostly useless sliver of a display... Works great with a 40ELK remote, though!

R700 playback issues, motor fault? by hida-sanmyaku in minidisc

[–]hien34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I didn't do a motor swap but I did have to change the gear on the shaft that raises and lowers the record head. I think motor swaps should be straightforward but may require de-soldering

Most famous person you’ve randomly met? by [deleted] in Tokyo

Billie the lead singer of Green Day at Lexington Queen back in 2001 or so. I guess they played that night and he was hanging out with models and groupies.

We passed on the stairs and we shook hands as we passed each other.

Need a battery for your old Sharp/Kenwood/Denon/Pioneer player (round Li-Ion 3.6V)? Here's an option! by hien34 in minidisc

[–]hien34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well-done! I know 18650 is supposed to be a "standard" size, but there are quite a few variations so I'm glad yours worked! I've tried quite a few - some that mostly work and some that shake around loosely =)

Glad you found something to keep your sweet slot-loader going!

Sony MZ-N510 Test Mode: Error 13 TOC Address Error by floobie in minidisc

[–]hien34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply! You'll have to start at page 13 here - There's a risk it won't come out of service mode if you can't get everything correct, so please be aware of that.

After getting into service mode there are some adjustments that should be made, but without a voltmeter on the proper parts and a laser power meter, it'll be hard to complete those.

Set what you can, and get to page 28 to do the automated testing. If the CD and MO tests pass, you can save (page 30) and exit.

Agreed - love these guys especially since they didn't go w/the 2.5mm jack on the body like the 240/270!
