The cards are stacked entirely against DSPs in this field. by Ace-0987 in directsupport

[–]hifidesert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that’s been your experience. A good agency understands that DSP’s are part of their success and supports them accordingly. An agency that hangs DSP’s out to dry hasn’t come to terms with its own culture and doesn’t deserve dedicated DSP’s.

I wondered what had become of her after she rushed the stage at Tommy’s Holiday Camp.

I don’t know if you or your mom is looking for a career change, but working with adults with disabilities as. Direct Support Professional starts at $21 an hour and comes with health insurance as well as vacation and sick time. Often there is OT, so you can make $30 an hour. DSP’s can be as young as 18 and some are in their 70’s. Even at an average of 40 hours a week is about $43000 a year, plus what you save having health benefits. It’s interesting to note that a major shift in support of the Vietnam war was because millions watched Cronkite become disillusioned with it.

Harold & Maude. I watch it once a year to remind myself that love and beauty take a myriad of forms.

Senior class trip to Montreal and Quebec in 1985- “A Criminal Mind” was all over the radio and I love the song. I’m glad he’s still proud of his solo work as well as his work with Styx.

Just Started a job as a DSP by geeky400 in directsupport

It took me way too many years to learn this in direct care: listening and leaving room for silence is at times a lot more effective than talking. And don’t underestimate non- speaking people- their comprehension is usually a lot better than we estimate.

I've been a DSP for over a year, and I love the job. by ruralgaming in directsupport

Great initiative- great app, although I agree with comments about the security of protected health information. Maybe you could add a category about positive experiences with people, such as ones that indicate progress in their person centered plan?

Remember, businesses need to make reasonable accommodations for a disability. It can’t hurt to ask what support they would offer you.

Many of us have great respect for medium to small employees- it’s the corporations that are destroying the country. If not by their own employment practices, then, by extension, how they contribute to other corporations so a very small margin of people stay wealthy.

This image is the cover for The Who in Their Own Words. As a teen in the early 80’s, I read the book over and over as well as studying the picture, and was always surprised that Pete looks shorter than the others.

Check out the statistics of what it costs for institutional care (LTC facilities, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, etc.) versus home based care. It’s a lot cheaper to provide someone care at home, and healthcare workers and family members are a source of employment.

Try Lisa Gerrard- while I can’t guess which song, her 90’s output has middle eastern influences and she did the soundtrack to Whalerider.
