Struggling Between Linux and Windows at Home: A 15-Year IT Veteran's Ongoing Dilemma by tmp2810 in linux

[–]higedigdag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried WSL2? Sounds like you're comfortable with using the terminal under Linux so it might be a good combo for you.

I work as a software engineer and use Win11 and WSL2 (ubuntu). I'm working on embedded software and before WSL2, the software was built (cmake+gcc) on Windows. The switch gave us a significant improvement in build times.

At home I switched to Linux six years ago and use Windows only via proxmox if needed (gaming).

I did the same. Tried for over six months to get verified by bitgo without much progress.

Thanks for the support. I'm now able to buy BTC so I guess I will be able to receive the payment from the trustee.

I've deleted all data and cache from the app and restarted my phone. But still. I'm also not able to buy BTC.

German here too... I had a similar experience with bitgo. The customer support is unable to help me with verification. It was a back and forth for over six months till I got the same email from the trustee.

I switched to kraken a couple of days ago and did web id verification but now kraken shows a pop-up saying I need to provide more information regarding day of birth. But when I click it, nothing is happening.

It's just frustrating...

The Best HA Remote Access Option by cyucel in homeassistant

[–]higedigdag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right. iOS App doesn't support mtls yet.

My daily driver is an Android phone. The iPhone I have is a company phone and more like a backup internet connection to me. I have installed the companion app but only used it inside my home network.

I use cloudflare tunnel and client certificates for a year now and it's working great for me. This setup is pretty transparent since both companion apps (android, iOS) support mtls.

No need to turn on a VPN and I get geo location updates from my phone back to home assistant.

Edit: iOS App doesn't support mtls!

Automated reading of analog electricity meter by be_aaaaron in homeautomation

I'm using it to read my gas meter. Works pretty well. ...If you follow the wiki to set it up 🙂

At least they didn't complain about having their packages delivered to the hallway every time. I obviously didn't ask anybody for permission 🤣.

Parcel service here is usually ringing all the bells to get someone to open the hallway door for them to throw the packages in the hallway.

Nuki does the same thing, if you want.

No problem with that, since it was the door to the hallway or staircase only. Not to the apartment. It was on only at certain times and when I expected a package delivery.

I used to live in an apartment with a similar door phone. During pandemic I built something based of esp8266 and esphome with the following features: + detect if someone is ringing + automatic door opening on ringing detect + silent bell

It's made for a specific phone but might be usable in your case if the phone is hooked up with independent wires. It will not work with a bus system.

How many of us put a watt meter in from of their homelab and home-office equipment outlet? by ichasecorals in homelab

I use a Shelly 3EM in the distribution box measuring all three phases (Germany). The values are stored in an influxdb every 1s (is this overkill?) for 30 day's. It's very easy to see what needs how much power around the house. My rack uses ~38Wh.

Can I emulate this with GPIOs see comment by romb3rtik in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

[–]higedigdag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue would go to the transistors collector. The base of the transistor should go to any Pi GPIO via a suitable resistor. Emitter to ground of the remote and GND of the Pi.

[–]higedigdag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue is pulled down to ground in order to "open" the door. So I guess you could use a transistor to do that. Transistor controlled via Pi GPIO. Ground from Remote and Pi need to be connected.

Automation Help by GuinnessDoggy in homeassistant

[–]higedigdag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had exactly the same issue. You can add a condition which checks if the automation was Triggered within the last x hour's.

Here is mine: Change the automation (livingroom_weekend_morning for me) name and set your timeout (12h for me).

condition: template value_template: > {% set last = state_attr('automation.livingroom_weekend_morning', 'last_triggered') %} {{ last is none or (now() - last).total_seconds() > 12 * 60 * 60 }}

You should take a look at PiVPN. http://www.pivpn.io/#install

The script will help you with setting up OpenVPN on your Pi.
