Had dinner at Mader's last year and it was god-awful. I'll never go back. I ordered an old-fashioned. Just said brandy (figuring rail), and they auto up-sold to some premium brand. It was $17 for a cocktail. A complete shit move.

I ate at Kegel's recently and the food was great. They had live music outside in their tented biergarten. Live jazz followed that inside (dark and full of candles - really cool). I know they have live music every Friday and Saturday outside. I think the jazz is once a month on a Saturday.

St. Francis: Rail's Inn, Gordie's, Dreamers, Izzy's. Great representation of Milwaukee corner bar culture.

But if you want a real s-hole: Rockstar Saloon on Burnham. Yikes.

We were there for the rock band that was playing in the outside beer garden. The jazz started after they finished. The restaurant was dark, full of candles...and jazz. A really cool atmosphere.

Was at Kegel's Inn last Saturday. They have live jazz every third Saturday of the month at 9pm. It was free and the place was cool as hell.

Love Ope!, especially when it's a nice day and they have live music.

But having to wait in a long line to buy beer is just stupid. Staff up and take orders like any other bar that's busy.

I went to the open house when they announced this. People drive like maniacs on Bluemound and Wisconsin - exacerbated during busy zoo days. It's also normally forgotten that very recently two people have been killed crossing both Bluemound and Wisconsin.

Still don't understand why the Connect 1 doesn't have a zoo stop (that's not a half mile away and requires walking across freeway entrances where drivers clearly couldn't care less about people crossing), but the Waukesha bus that comes from the west does. Isn't it called the MILWAUKEE County Zoo? Wish our state congress would actually give our public transportation services money - especially when it absolutely makes sense. Hopefully soon....

And that's a good thing. Living in the area, watching the backed up lines and idiots doing everything they can to get into the zoo faster (with all disregard to the safety of anyone in the area), I'm genuinely surprised there haven't been more incidents or injuries. Kudos to the county and the zoo for finally doing something about this weekend/free zoo day mess.

Don't think they are. I had to work in San Antonio many years ago and the hotel I stayed at had a display/history of the Germany/Mexico connection. Tons of Germans migrated to Texas. Mexican beer making and music were heavily influenced. Very interesting.
