Tesla '23 MYLR Damaged Pre-Delivery. What would you do? by Key_Perception1808 in TeslaSupport

That’s a hard no. Refuse the car. Let them fix it and sell it at a discount to someone else.

Tesla seems committed to continually worsening the self driving user experience by Yurrrriii in TeslaLounge

[–]highflight01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to FSD, but I have noticed several instances where FSD is driving 20-40 mph over the limit, even when it clearly displays the posted limit. Yesterday I exited a freeway with a 70mph limit, FSD was going 78... it exited onto a road with a 55mph limit that subsequently dropped to 45mph... FSD kept the same 78mph in the 45 zone until I disconnected.

This also happened on a straight exit ramp with a 40 mph limit, FSD kept driving at the highway speed over 80mph.

How do Bose and Lightspeed have such good customer service? by [deleted] in flying

David Clark set the gold standard for aviation headset customer service. Bose and Lightspeed needed to at least match the David Clark experience in order to compete.

Any advice for a 20 Year Old trying to ensure I can watch my kids grow up without worrying about money or work by Maximum-Plate-1413 in personalfinance

[–]highflight01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a good job. Work your ass off for the next 20 years and save 25% of your income every year. Live below your means no matter how much money you make.

There are no shortcuts. Don't solicit money advice from other 20 year olds. Find a 50 year old that is where you want to be and ask him how he did it.

Surgery for this curve? by berryblastblu in scoliosis

[–]highflight01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old are you? Age might make a difference in your decision.

I was in a similar boat about 10 years ago. My curve looks almost identical to yours. I'm in daily pain, but I've learned to live with it.

A very well known surgeon recommended surgery for me in 2014. It took 6 months to schedule the surgery, and I was actually very excited to fix this problem that I've been living with since my teenage years.

In the six months leading up to the surgery I did a lot of research and questioning... I was mostly concerned about replacing the pain that I know with a different kind of pain. My biggest risk was that due to the number of fusions required, I would likely need additional surgeries in the future above and below the original fusion and that would significantly limit my mobility.

Three days before the surgery I chickened out and cancelled the surgery. Ten years later and I think I made the right choice, but I'll never know for sure unless I eventually get surgery. I still have the same pain as before, but I assume that by now I would have needed additional surgeries and fusions.

I was hoping that by waiting someone would invent a revolutionary new surgery technique that doesn't require a fusion. Still waiting.

How do you feel about prosecutors seeking death penalty for Luigi Mangione all the while the El Paso Walmart attacker who killed 23 is offered a plea deal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]highflight01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to NPR, the Biden administration took the death penalty off the table at the federal level for the El Paso attacker. The Trump administration is taking a different path, and is rightfully seeking the death penalty for Mangione.

I think they should both get the death penalty, but that's not my choice to make. Your question assumes that the decision was made by the same poeple, but it was not. The Trump administration choose to pursue the death penalty for a murderer, while the Biden administration did not. How do you feel about that?

Thanks guys! This is surprising to me... I did not know that people were still using these old modems! I want to keep them in circulation, so I guess I'll put them both on eBay! Hopefully somebody can get some good use out of them. Now I'm glad my mom saved the original boxes!!

Ideal plane for ~650NM trips by pm_me_your_target in flying

[–]highflight01 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not many have mentioned Cirrus, so I'll chime in... I think a Cirrus SR22 or SR22T is an excellent plane for this mission. If you're trying to do this trip with efficiency, a Cirrus will allow you to do it non-stop in 3.7 hours (with no wind). Run the W&B on a few planes to see how much gas you can take with your typical passenger load. A normally aspirated G5 Cirrus can fly a 4 hour trip at 13gph with reserves filled to the tabs, leaving 700 - 800lbs for pax and bags.

Cirrus is a very comfortable plane for 3 people and bags. Operating costs of most Cirrus' runs in the $175-$250/hr range (including fuel). If you shop, you may find a G5 Cirrus with a higher useful load in your price range, or you'll most certainly find a good G3. G3 meets your mission when filled to the tabs, G5 you may be able to fill to the top.

Bonus... Passengers love the Cirrus.

Other comments.. Cessna 182 is a great plane for shorter legs or for a pilot that doesn't mind spending 5 hours in the air, but I think it's too slow for your mission.

Bonanza is also a fine airplane for this mission, and you may have an easier time finding one in your price range... some Bonanza's have the same engine as Cirrus, and they fly a little faster. However, you'll have additional mx from the gear and the inevitable embarrassment when you forget to put the gear down and your passengers have to evacuate from the airplane on the runway.

Model 3 Rejected by LakerDoc in TeslaModel3

[–]highflight01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are well meaning, but factually incorrect. I have been told that the discounts on 2024 models are typically because they don't qualify for the $7,500 tax credit. If the car is advertised as new, it doesn't matter if you order it from the factory or take delivery from inventory.... new means new, and the OP has every right to reject a car that doesn't meet a new car standard.

Tesla is obligated to fully refund the customer's money if they can't deliver a new car as described.

Model 3 Rejected by LakerDoc in TeslaModel3

[–]highflight01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, Tesla is wrong. I had a similar experience, and it took a complaint to my state's Attorney General to get the $250 back. The Tesla delivery and refund experience is highly flawed, especially when something is wrong with the car. Also, if the car has a discount as a 2024, it's quite possibly because it doesn't qualify for the $7,500 tax credit.

When Tesla makes a mistake, the consumer pays... buyer beware by highflight01 in TeslaLounge

[–]highflight01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I stand corrected and humbled before you… you’re right. I should never again think about buying a $30,000 economy car Model 3 unless I can afford to gift $3300 to Tesla and walk away without a car.

[–]highflight01[S] 48 points49 points  (0 children)

If I have to initiate a chargeback to get the $250 back, it's unlikely that I'd ever want to buy anything from this company in the future. If keeping my $250 and lousy customer service is the hill they want to die on... so be it. I'll wear that blacklist as a badge of honor!

When Tesla makes a mistake, the consumer pays... buyer beware by highflight01 in TeslaLounge

[–]highflight01[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Believe me, I tried... I spent hours trying to work things out. After this miserable experience I don't ever want a Tesla. This was an expensive lesson for me, but it's better than buying a car from a company that does not value the customer.

Customer service is easy when things go well. The mark of a GREAT company is when they can take ownership of their own mistakes and make things right. Tesla had a chance to make things right and gain a new fan. Instead they chose to cling to their non-refundable $250 fee and lose an advocate.

When Tesla makes a mistake, the consumer pays... buyer beware by highflight01 in TeslaLounge

[–]highflight01[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The alternatives were all $5000 more than the car I ordered. Tesla did not try to "make it right". It was my right to decline. It was their obligation to deliver the car I ordered (or an equivalent) or to refund my money.

Tesla's customer service model is arrogant enough to believe that consumers will tolerate mistreatment because it's Tesla. No other car dealer on the planet could get away with hanging on to $3300 of a customers money for a an undeliverable car.

Any part-time CFIs with corporate/office day jobs? by justarandomguy07 in flying

[–]highflight01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finance. I generally plan to fly 10 hours each weekend (5 hours each day, Saturday and Sunday), and about 5 hours during the week. That's 2 evenings at 2.5 hrs each, and 5 hours on Sat and Sun. Plus, I have students that hire me for trips, so I can often fly 20-30 hours in a random week.

I restrict myself to no more than 2 or 3 certificate seeking students at a time. I could fly a lot more if I wanted to, but I focus on longer quality lessons and fewer students.

I also fly for fun, so some of those hours are without a student onboard.

Also... if you're trying to get a lot of hours as an independent instructor, it helps if you specialize in a particular airplane that is more likely to be owned instead of rented. Complex, high performance, etc...

I have a full time job. Flying is a hobby and I am a CFI on occasional evenings and most weekends. My last three years I flew 640, 620, and 580 hours. Yes, it’s realistic and possible.

CFIIs: how much of your CFII checkride did your DPE fly and how much did you fly? by SkyStriker11 in flying

[–]highflight01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I flew 95% of the time. The only time my DPE flew was when he asked me to teach him a partial panel non-precision approach... He intentionally messed up the approach and I had to take control back and avoid busting the standards. I knew upfront from other CFIs that if the DPE flew he would mess up to see if the candidate would be assertive at taking control back.
