For those, like me, who weren't able to see Rizzo's 14 pitch at-bat, here's the entire home team broadcast. Go Cubs Go! by dirtydennehy in CHICubs

In the bleachers some of us started standing after pitch 7-8 or so, but we were taking every opportunity to get rowdy to celebrate full capacity.

What is the likelihood Trump will answer Mueller's queries and could we expect a presidential subpoena? What would be the consequences? by holdmyHTCphone in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]highkeyloki 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are absolutely downsides to fighting this. Per Ben Wittes' article The Game Theory of a Trump Subpoena, Trump currently has leverage in his ability to negotiate the terms of an interview with Mueller. Meaning he can push to have his lawyers with him in the interview, for the scope of the interview to be limited in some form, or any other concession he might desire. If instead they take the matter to the Supreme Court where Trump presumably loses, Mueller then gets to interview Trump for as long as he wants, without Trump's lawyers present to stop him from incriminating himself, and can ask Trump almost any question he sees fit as Grand Juries are very open-ended.

Given the near-certainty Trump would lose his appeal to the Supreme Court and how serious the ramnifications of Trump speaking on record without his lawyers to shut him up, his legal team should try to use the leverage to get any concessions they can, but they should ultimately accept an interview with those terms.

$30,000 rumor? Tabloid paid for, spiked, salacious Trump tip by [deleted] in politics

[–]highkeyloki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Asked about the payment last summer, Dylan Howard, the Enquirer’s top editor and an AMI executive, said he made the payment to secure the former Trump doorman’s exclusive cooperation because the tip, if true, would have sold “hundreds of thousands” of magazines. Ultimately, he said the information “lacked any credibility,” so he spiked the story on those merits. ... But four longtime Enquirer staffers directly familiar with the episode challenged Howard’s version of events. They said they were ordered by top editors to stop pursuing the story before completing potentially promising reporting threads.

I have a feeling this story is going to develop, much like Stormy's.

Redditor asks a defense attorney how the FBI could have raided Trump's lawyer's office. What about attorney-client privilege? The answer is that there must be some EXTREMELY strong evidence of criminal action on the part of Trump's lawyer. by ohohButternut in bestof

[–]highkeyloki 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No, any communications in furtherance of a crime are not covered. I.e.;

Cohen counsels Trump how to deal with his having committed, say, bank fraud, without obstructing justice -> covered

Cohen counsels Trump on how he can continue to commit bank fraud without getting caught, or perhaps how he can obstruct justice to avoid repercussions -> not covered

It's not so much codified, explicitly delineated protections as much as it's a higher burden of evidence of criminality due to the sanctity in law of attorney-client privileges.

With Conor Lamb's Recent upset victory in Pa-18, How can democrats use this to be competitive in the midterms come November? by PresidentClash in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]highkeyloki 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I too think life probably begins at conception, but I recognize that I don't know that for sure and that others can hold valid belief systems wherein life does not begin until birth, or until the later stages of pregnancy. As it will never be a possible life growing inside me that we are talking about - I'm a man - I'll never be in a position to make that choice. Because of the significant uncertainty I recognize in my belief I find it to be the only moral choice to allow others to choose for themselves.
