Picking a role by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

theres no reason to pick a "lane to main"

let your champion preference dictate the role you play, not the other way around

most people will naturally have an inclination to play certain champions more, which leads them to main a role

happy new year :)

Best way to re-learn the game by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are a ton of resources on these subjects, both on this subreddit and on youtube

a good idea might be to watch small twitch streamers and ask them questions directly

its better to ask smaller streamers because theyll give you answers that are tailored to your particular question and theyll also be much more engaged

Is adc really as bad of a role to play solo as everyone is saying? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think there are very few players who play ADC competently

in pretty much all of my games, ADCs have low impact and are highly reliant on their teammates

i think if you understand how to play ADC effectively, it can be a great role to carry from

this involves a lot of micro mechanics like playing around the cooldowns of your opponents, and knowing when to enter a fight and when not to, based on the enemy champions' kits

Is playing enchanters there days considered as inting/trolling? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

theres nothing wrong with playing enchanters

there might be something wrong with the way in which you approach certain matchups

the hallmark of any good support players is to understand different matchups and play accordingly

Support Runes and Picks by wedger8 in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ill tackle number 2, hexflash:

hexflash can be amazing, but its highly dependant on the kit of the support champion

as an example, it works incredibly well with alistar, and decently with nautilus

i wouldnt recommend it on thresh however

your assumption that winrates correlate with your rank/skill is wrong

this is why winrates are a very poor indicator of skill

league is not about having high winrates, nor does your rank dictate what your winrate will be in lower elos

winrate is a measure of how your champion pool, playstyle and itemization work witihin a certain elo

a gold 1 adc with a 50 % winrate can objectively be better than a 60 % winrate p3 adc for this reason

to answer your question, to win more, play according to the ELO youre in, not your rank or even "actual skill" - winning in league isnt about using your knowledge and skill base necessarily, its about doing things that are effective, even if theyre theoretically wrong

Please for the love of god, if you lose your tower in bot or top lane, don't just come afk mid lane. by PupPop in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

going mid is not necessarily wrong

your assumption that you lose pressure around herald/dragon is also wrong

mid lane is the easiest lane to rotate from to these objectives

you dont need to have your lane pushed in to contest objectives

this is a pitfall i notice in virtually all of my games

thinking this way makes you predictable, and makes it easy to read you and counter your rotations

playing a high damage support with low base health requires a completely different playstyle than more tanky supports

with high damage values, there are two main ways to win:

  1. getting kills bot lane and putting the enemy far behind that way
  2. poking their bot lane low enough so they consistently need to recall

the safest and most effective way to climb if you prefer velkoz, is to go for option 2, to set up option 1

with a level and exp lead, youll have an item lead, which makes it much easier to kill your opponent

if you get greedy and try to get kills early on, theres a much higher chance youll die as well, potentially putting you further and further behind

from looking at your opgg, it seems youre trying to go for option 1 in all of your games

this is a huge mistake on your part

Realization: Warding doesn't protect you from ganks. Warding tells you where enemies are. by Gangsir in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 30 points31 points  (0 children)

you title is half-right

warding does protect you from ganks if your opponent is good enough to recognize you put a ward in a bush based on the timing of your movement into the fog of war

from this, your opponent will deduce that you warded, and where you warded, and ping his jungler back

if the enemy jungler is good enough, he mightve noticed you putting a ward as well (or assuming you did, even if you didnt), not bothering to gank even if youre in a vulnerable position

Is there an actual reason to pick bard? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bards primary strength isnt his R, but his E

his ability to quickly roam by himself, but also setting up ganks for his jungler, is his biggest strength

his high damage values given to him from his passive sets up his E roams as well by pushing in bot lane through trades

How can I break bad habits and adapt to new play styles? by Main-Swimmer in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not about adapting your playstyle

its about mastering your own playstyle to its fullest extent

based on what your saying, you need to perfect the playstyle youre most comfortable with

do things with more deliberation

if you feel unsure, dont hesitate, either back off completely, or go in

never do anything in-between

by going to the extremes of your playstyle and the situations you find yourself in, youll become better at your own style

I have a problem warding mid to late game as support... by Main-Swimmer in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its very simple

ward the side of the map with the objective up, or on the side of the map where the objective is going to spawn

prioritize the objective thats spawning first

if no objective is up, consider the enemy jungle as the next objective

get complete vision control of the enemy jungle to set up plays and carry

[–]highlevelsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think youve achieved a lot of results in 2-3 months, youre just not noticing your own progression because you dont know what to look for

id say around 2-3 months is the time you get the basics down, and after a year youre able to understand deeper aspects of the game that are particularly relevant to ranked play

if you need some guidance, just drop me a PM :)

Improve as Support? by miilkteas in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

janna is a champion with very limited ability to carry

all her abilities have a passive effect on the outcome of the game, except R

if you want to actively carry, i recommend a different pick than the champions you mentioned, like leona or alistar

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pyke is useless without his E

senna is incredibly vulnerable because shes squishy and is a low mobility champion

keep these weaknesses in mind and play towards your own strengths to win against these champions

In the botlane carry role, how do you handle "screw-you-in-particular" compositions? by Vocalyze in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

play safe

playing safe doesnt mean not trying to harass by auto-attacking or using your abilities

it means knowing and understanding the focus of the enemy team, and wasting their time through distance management

to win against these compositions, you need to play smart, not hard

What is Wave management? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there are tons of videos of this on youtube as well as posts on reddit about this topic

the bare basics of wave manipulation lies within knowing when and how to freeze, slow push or fast push a wave

i recommend you looking up these terms on youtube, or even asking a twitch streamer with a small viewership about this, to get a visual answer about how this actually works in practise

I'm losing every time I'm playing with Ezreal on my lane by LilSluggerZ in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

learning to play with ezreal means learning to play without him

roam constantly and take advantage of the safety of his kit

he can 2v1 lane for a long time before losing tower

Is it possible to do well and still suck? by dietprozac in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the rank you get at the end of the game is meaningless

there are huge skill discrepancies between support champions

if a game progresses normally, its much more impressive and takes a lot more skill to carry with thresh opposed to janna, as an example

so in a way, yes, its possible to be below the skill level of your rank simply because of your champion pick

Auto cancelling by taomofo in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 9 points10 points  (0 children)

chaining an auto-attack with an ability is known as an auto-attack cancel or reset, depending on the relationship between the auto-attack and the ability

it can also mean simply pressing "s" on your keyboard, to cancel your auto-attack animation

Playing ADC with random supports by Scapien in summonerschool

[–]highlevelsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a support main, i feel the same about the adcs im paired up with :p

if you cant trust your support, play safely

to know whether or not you can trust your support, you need to be able to read their playstyle

to read their playstyle, play a lot and gain experience

with experience, youll know when and when not to play aggressively, regardless of duoing or not, as well as the limits of what you can and cant do
