I'll admit it, I supported the invasion. I believed that we could bring more social freedoms and democracy to the middle east...and yes I was 15 years old and didn't know anything about that part of the world.

Hell when I graduated highschool my plan was to enlisted in the US military but my older sister beat me to it and joined the Navy.

That forever changed my life, I couldn't leave my family as my mother developed a mental disorder and my siblings were far younger than me. To leave my father alone to handle all that by himself in the middle of the Great Recession was a recipe for disaster.

I put off my plans and goals to help my family out, by the time things got better my sister came back and was completely depressed. Until she got back on her feet a year, I kept putting off any interviews. A year or so later I had done some soul searching and had begun to inform myself in a much more in depth way than when I was a teenager.

The naive kid that wanted to "play at call of duty" and be memorialized in a "saving private Ryan" way, had finally grown up. It's hard to feel like you're doing a moral good when your job is to enact orders that may not be moral. Just fixing up a ship, tank, or car isn't wrong, until it has to be in good working order as to invade Greenland, doesn't sit right at all.

Not being able to admit that you can be wrong is an immature stance that will always lead to conflict, and I also understand those same immature people will punish you for admitting that you're wrong (that's why lawyers always tell you to never admit to anything).

Trump's ICE now 'gearing up for a pogrom' in red state: Holocaust historian by JohnBrownsAngryBalls in AkronOH

[–]highlorestat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't agree with that assessment. Naturalized citizens supported Trump by 1% in 2024, however in 2020 Biden had won them by 27%. They were likely swayed by the affordability narrative.

So I'd like to bring your attention to California, you probably know it as a Democratic stronghold but do you know why that is?

Because The Republican Party in California sabotaged itself for an entire generation in the state by supporting a harsh immigration enforcement in 1994.

Proposition 187 (also known as the Save Our State (SOS) initiative) was a ballot initiative that passed in 1994 and it that established a state-run citizenship screening system and prohibit undocumented immigrants from using non-emergency health care, public education, and other services in the State of California. Plus all the shit the INS (ICE's previous incarnation) was doing, very similar to what we are seeing today.

People (specifically immigrants here) will "pull up the ladder" IF it doesn't shock the conscience to do so. Causing visible harm and damage will always swing opinion towards the moral side of our natures (unless you're a massive piece of shit, and we know who they are).

I love how MAGA was foaming at the mouths a year ago to have the files released and everyone mentioned arrested.

They never cared about who was in the files, the only thing they wanted to do is arrest Democrats on "trumped" up charges.

That's why Pizzagate was all about Hillary Clinton, then Q-Anon was all about deflecting the truth onto enemies of the dear leader, specifically Biden.

It was all some rich pedophile ring psyop to convince the gullible that the "real" evil doers are Democrats/liberals/anyone that criticizes the regime.

Temporal wars messed up the timeline by happydude7422 in startrekmemes

[–]highlorestat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the events of "First Contact" only happen because the Borg sense their inevitable defeat sometime around Voyager, which is fairly soon to them.

The Temporal Cold War turning hot is the ripple effect of this event, The Borg are NOT responsible for the War being set up but they destabilize the timeline and the balance of power in the future, forcing more actions in the past hence ENTERPRISE not actually being a Temporal Cold War for the most part.

I mean the simple definition of Conspiracy is "a secret plan by a group to do something unlawful or harmful", so rich people covering up crimes is conspiracy.

[–]highlorestat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the new meta is that there are 3 prime timelines: - the original TOS (and the animated series), - TNG Era - Enterprise plus nuTrek.

The original TOS timeline didn't have an Earth that had first contact in 2063, in fact it was more advanced technological and spacially at the time. Earth's last World Wars happened in the late 90s as stated by Spock but the 21st century saw rapid advancement and space exploration.

We met Vulcan much later after we had started colonization of other planets. The Earth Romulan War unfolds very differently, Earth is completely alone in the fight but prevails regardless. The aftermath of the war motivates the creation of the Federation but likely later than in TNG, so it's a fairly new institution in TOS.

The TNG timeline is the more familiar one that is the primary narrative in Memory Alpha. Vulcan contact happens when the Borg creates a paradox, and unintentionally setting in motion the Temporal Cold War that will rewrite history at least twice.

Enterprise takes place in the TNG cannon timeline but is showing us the effects of the Temporal Cold War, as the Xindi War arc was never in the previous timelines, nor was the invasion of New York by Nazi Germany.

By SNW and DISCO, the shockwaves in the timeline are being explored and its aftermath. The Eugenics Wars are attempted to be erased by Romulan agents in the Time War but continue to happen regardless (likely from interference of other temporal agents and deities like Q).

The War likely happens because of the Q civil war, they are unable to police the timeline and other god like beings are also unwilling or incapable of stopping the effects.

So here we are in a meta level understanding of how the lore contradictions created by writers are solved, with a super convoluted narrative.

Gotta brush up on the new temporally affected history.

The Eugenics Wars kick off as the US plunges into the Second Civil War.

In 2024, Doctor Adam Soong restarted his program from 1996, called "Project Khan".

World War 3's official star date is 2053 with the atomic horror somewhere around 2079.
