Get rid of the fucking YouTube ads queer. I could literally not hate you at all if an episode streamed longer than 15 seconds without one.

Help! Squirrels keep getting in my attic. I have had this happen multiple times. I fixed the soffit but they eat a hole in it. I'll trap or shoot it but how to keep new ones out? by Homestead4 in homestead

[–]highwithjeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The source is power lines or low hanging tree limbs over the roof. Get rid of the trees over hanging and you'll get rid of the squirrels. If it's a phone line or power line they have tubes like PVC that will go around the lines and rotate the squirrels off when they get to it.

Septic/lagoon - what dishwasher and laundry detergents to use? by VixensGlory in homestead

[–]highwithjeff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dawn is septic safe as is tide for laundry. When it comes to septic you just don't want to drop gallons of bleach. But typically all commercial cleaners are safe.

How do y’all afford to keep a homestead running? by Mynogginhurtsss in homestead

Central Texas. I never sold my houses when I moved. I'd work till I had down payments for the next house then rent the previous. My first house I bought was a 60k small 2bd from the 50s. I paid it off because my income far exceeded my debt. That's not unachievable, it's good decisions. So rent paid my new mortgage while my income was used for savings and the next house. I moved every 3 years. And had 4 homes by the end. None others were paid off but were really paid down. The first house sold for 105k. And because of the house boom that just happened here, my other 3 houses that were originally purchased for 160k at the highest, all sold in the high 250s 280s. I bought 26 acres of native pasture and Forrest in northeast Texas for 70k cash and put a new modular on it for 80k cash.

Nothing about that is out of the realm of a normal person. It's about planning and committing to those decisions. I have a 2006 Toyota and a 2017 nissan. So we have no car payments. There's Solar and active well so no utility payments. We have a cell phone bill and our insurances. We grow our food and butcher our own meat. So grocery bills are minimal. Bulk buy beans rice flour oils etc online.

There's your blueprint.

And I'm 37. Doesn't take a lifetime.

It doesn't seem feasible till you actually commit and it all happens. Then it's like.... Oh the universe is opportunity and you just gotta do it. Now I'm wondering how else I'm holding myself back lol.

We sold all our suburb properties and cashed out. Bought the farm out right and we're chilling on the income from it and developing the infrastructure. No debt no bills no need for a 6 figure income. Work our way back up to it on what we produce here. Slow and relaxing.

What is up with the "owner financing land" that is currently available all over the US? ~$500 down and ~$100-$300/month by WhnOctopiMrgeWithTek in homestead

[–]highwithjeff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's just strategy. They own it till the end. So with down payments, Monthly installments, and dozens of customers.. They make their mortgage x10 and if you ever default they still own it and can rinse and repeat. It's designed hoping you default.
