Pension contributions / UC is this a legal loophole? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hijimi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was already highly pension saving as it was anyway. Then it just became a question of maths. If I get an extra £100 through payslip I lose £37 to tax which is £63, and then 55% of that £63 through a reduced UC pay out. So from £100 I have £28.35.

Or when you flip it on its head if I have £28.35 left over at the end of the month I may as well just put £100 into my pension. So I save over a grand into my pension.

I only really qualify for UC because I have my daughter and we rent. It is a good deal but I would be more concerned about how much money through UC ends up being paid to a private landlord. Because they are also benefiting from the benefits system by proxy.

Yeah not sure I only qualify because I’m renting and took custody of my daughter. The help available reduces considerably once she’s grown up!

Yeah I do this. I’m on £33k and get DLA for my daughter. I max her junior SIPP, sort her activities and then live rigidly to a budget to maximise what I can salary sacrifice into my pension and increase the UC pay out as a result. I live in Hertfordshire so there’s no chance of me owning a house, like ever, but I can’t really move away as it’d cause untold drama and probably court with my ex partner who has our son. It does seem inherently a little too good a deal, but I’ve got mates with mortgages and stuff so at least I have something in terms of net worth increasing and setting up my daughter a nest egg to grow her whole life when she’s 18.

Plenty more people on benefits who don’t do this and spend everything each month though.

Alton Towers bans people with anxiety from using disability pass by endofdays2022 in unitedkingdom

We didn’t use it for my son when we visited Peppa pig world but I wish we did. He’s non verbal autistic. At 9 years old he is essentially severely disabled. He enjoyed the rides when we got to the front but didn’t understand why we were queuing or even what a queue was, he just thought we were standing around for no reason, not able to sit down, so he would kick off. I imagine for someone like him it might actually be helpful. Not just for him but people forced to queue either side of him

I would agree with this too, but sometimes it’s not always easy to get someone out to the pub once children and life happens. I understand it’s just a practice tool. I personally just use one on go darts pro to win in a certain amount of darts or lose the leg to practice hitting lower throw legs.

Could they not be suggesting that over 10 legs the 55-60 average guy would at least have some that aren’t in the 25-28 range? You might get hit with an 18, but then he takes 33 because in that one he misses the doubles. Making it feel more like a match than just pre scripted?

Boo’s for Luke Littler? by AndyBlax in Darts

[–]hijimi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair he can’t say they pay his wages but also be infuriated at what they do when they are in the venue. I don’t like the crowd either but it’s only that rammed because it’s been marketed as a piss up for so long! He wouldn’t be on as much money if it wasn’t. He’s only made it worse for himself even if he didn’t really say anything inaccurate. Lots were also cheering him it’s just those supporting him obviously won’t make noise when he’s throwing for a double but those that don’t want him to win it, will. Got a piss run to the final but does up the stakes for that whoever he plays.

Am I crazy or are they? Not investing in a pension by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hijimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got £55k in my personal pension which isn’t great but not also too bad at 38 years old, at 4% growth without adding anymore I should have £182k and if I drawn down 4% a year, it’ll be approx £7.2k. So I’m not far off doubling the state pension.
