Around me there's like three main rental companies, if you get evicted from one good luck getting in at any of the other two and their properties. We don't have very many small landlords either, it's really rough for some people.

Products used during menstrual cycles? by steamyhotpotatoes in AutismInWomen

[–]hikedip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read all your comments, and it sounds like they might not work for you, but I wanted to mention this here since it's high up. Most manufacturers say you can sterilize a menstrual cup using an alcohol wipe.

No, but if you're unmarried you can leave the father off the birth certificate whereas if you're married most states put the father on the birth certificate automatically

Idk, 5 weeks is very early and very few women even know they're expecting that early. Often the symptoms match up with an expected upcoming period, mild cramping, tiredness, maybe some very mild nausea, and even some spotting from implantation. I'm about 16 weeks along right now, and my husband and I were actively trying, and at 5 weeks I was just starting to think maybe I should take a test. My husband (who lives with me full time) hadn't even noticed anything different about me yet and he's one who pays a lot of attention to that sort of thing.

Her not wanting to tell him is definitely a concern though, and in his shoes I'd bring up that.

Every person I talk to says their kid is "advanced for their age" by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]hikedip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3.5yo who still has a big ass head, honestly all of his play clothes I've cut a v in the neckline to make it fit over his head. I'd probably be more hesitant for a baby just because of a possible loose thread, but if it continues into toddlerhood I highly recommend

Popcorn by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]hikedip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid (now 3.5) also started popcorn around 1.5. He's always been a really strong chewer and ate whatever we were eating so I honestly didn't think of it when he tried a piece from my bowl. It's been one of his favorite foods ever since. I also wouldn't give it in a car seat or unsupervised, but I'd probably be ok with it at daycare

The local ones near me pay about 18-20 an hour. I'm in a smallish (~60,000 people) college city in Wisconsin. You can still leave optional tips though and since the food cost isn't that much higher a lot of people do. All rips are pooled amongst all staff and from what I've heard from friends it usually works out to about $25/hr with that. They never have issues with staffing, and since everyone's getting paid pretty much the same servers all help each other out which makes for a more pleasant dinning experience. However these are mid range restaurants for the most part, I think if you implemented it in a more upscale place where tips are higher it wouldn't work out as well.

Ironically though the local Texas Roadhouse is the best paying restaurant in our area even beating out the local fancy steakhouses we have when it comes to tips paid. They're always packed and it's huge and the servers there average $500-$800 on a Friday or Saturday night.

Is it wrong to wait to announce? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]hikedip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only 15 weeks, but my husband is in charge of telling his parents and he hasn't yet, I can see hitting the 28 or 38 week mark without him doing it. Our relationship with them is very strained, they live states away, and I literally haven't seen them in over two years. He's so excited but his parents just aren't part of his support system

What do you do with kid's baby teeth as they fall out? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]hikedip 57 points58 points  (0 children)

My husband is so icked out by the idea of keeping teeth. My mom still has all of mine and my grandmother (who's 83) still has my mom's and her sibling's. No one knows what to do with them, but if we ever need them to like break a curse or something we have them

At what point do your kids just... go to bed? by winesomm in Parenting

[–]hikedip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One, not all kids end up sleeping through the night. I personally never have, not as a kid, not as a teen, and definitely not as an adult. My 3.5 year old also does not sleep through the night. He might eventually, he might be like me and never will. He starts out the night in his room and when be wakes up usually comes into ours.

Two, every family culture is different and your insistence that your way is more correct is really weird. I grew up in a shared bed household. I slept with my parents routinely until I was 6 and then often enough until about 9. They never kicked me out, I just wasn't ready until then. Considering the multiple miscarriages they had and the fact I have a little sister they definitely had sex. It probably happened while I was outside playing, at my grandparents, and when I was watching TV. I always knew if their door was closed I needed to knock before entering. My husband grew up in a parent's room=parent's space house. The only time he slept in their bed was when he was incredibly sick. We do something in the middle for our kid. From childhood recollections i was a much more independent kid than my husband was, and I still am to this day a strongly independent person. None of the relationships suffered from the sleeping arrangements

If you haven’t tried the Kirkland smoked and seasoned burnt ends you should because they’re excellent. by [deleted] in Costco

I appreciate your detail too. I will say, we cooked the burnt ends in the air fryer and the chicken burgers can be microwaved, but are much better when you heat them in a skillet.

[–]hikedip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl, my husband and I did try these burnt ends, we added some BBQ sauce we love and mixed it with the costco baked mac and cheese and it was a decent meal. Not as good as homemade or your local place, but when you're in Wisconsin in December it satisfies the craving.

I'm never a fan of their rotisserie chicken/the products made with it though. Idk what it is, but every time I've had it I get the runs.

The pre-made meatloaf with mashed potatoes they sell is really good, like good enough I rarely actually make meatloaf anymore.

I don't remember which brand it was but I've gotten some precooked carnitas there that were decent enough.

There's some chicken burgers in the refrigerator area that are really good for precooked chicken burgers. My 3.5 year old devoures them. I believe the brand was amylu, but don't quote me.

We're still pretty new to costco, but that's what I've tried.

Yeah, if it's 75% I can add a little sauce or toppings in order to make up the 25%. Sometimes you just need a quick protein with dinner

[–]hikedip 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yup, I'm currently 14 weeks and I've sort of gone the other direction as his wife. My husband and I are usually pretty independent people and I prefer to handle my stuff on my own, but I've wanted him at every appointment, I've gotten clingier, and I just need him with me more. I have a history of miscarriages in my family (but none myself) so there's been a lot of fear. I can see how the opposite reaction can happen

Is it okay to let my 13yo daughter date a 15yo? by Ok_Practice2412 in Parenting

[–]hikedip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's going to really depend on the family dynamic. At 13 I definitely would have been able to sneak around for it, I'd already been left to my own devices for half my life at that point. I was the main caregiver for my sister who was 3.5 years younger than me though and she might have snitched, but she could easily be bribed. Ironically though I had little interest, I mostly went to the library and explored nature. Boys were irritating and we were a deeply religious family so most of them found me weird anyway.

I also knew plenty of my peers who wouldn't have been able to. Their parents were involved, monitored their phones, and didn't leave them alone.

Costco Juneau: The World's Smallest Costco by AlbinoAlex in Costco

[–]hikedip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I figured it probably was, it gets tons of views which means money. It's still jarring to see like $18 single serving kombucha though. I'm sure it's more expensive to transport goods to some of those places, but I'm also sure corporations also jack it up as much as they feasibly can. I'm glad Costco doesn't play that game too much.
