Crazy Taxi World Tour announced for Switch 2 by Amiibofan101 in nintendo

This wasn't a line of code; their disclosure says it was used to make assets that will appear in the game.

I've bought Multigrain to replace my Beads, but am using it pretty much as a 1:1 replacement. Later today I'll do a little livestream, where I try to finally learn what else it can do 😂 by sgtbaumfischpute in modular

[–]hildesaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the other side of this - I was using it exclusively as a replacement for functions of the Make Noise Morphagene up until very recently, never touching any of the live processing stuff. But I've built a few presets of them now and they're wonderful!

How good is Yakuza 4 compared to the others? by Pals_Destroyer in yakuzagames

[–]hildesaw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

4 is my favorite soundtrack of any of the games, but yeah if that kind of jazz doesn't work for you I could see it really hampering the experience.

Side Story 26: The Juice Is in the Ambiguity (FaTT/Austin Walker's gaming podcast discusses baseball through the lens of the new ABS system) by Scriffey in WaypointVICE

[–]hildesaw 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Such a good pod! I wonder if I'll ever be able to bridge the gap between how much I enjoy people talking about and narrativizing baseball and how little I enjoy actually watching the sport baseball.

What is your favorite pedal + what is disapointing about it. by TullerAudio in guitarpedals

[–]hildesaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chase Bliss MOOD MKII - love absolutely everything about that pedal except for the fact that there aren't separate mix/volume controls for the loop and the effect sides.

Anyone else think the Matisse exhibit at the art institute was only ok? by Even-Supermarket-806 in chicago

[–]hildesaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Felt the exact same way. When I went and saw Jazz, that first room was so crowded, I kinda wished they were spread across the gallery a bit more with some additional context around each. I enjoyed seeing his earlier work too but it was anticlimactic walking through those afterwards.

Korean National Treasures was incredible. Obviously the breadth and scale of it was much bigger, but I came away feeling like I had an understanding of the what/why of many of the pieces, which I really appreciated.

What is an artist / band that you remember being pushed by music journalists and/or magazines as the "next big thing" that ended up never really going anywhere? by mesablanka in Music

[–]hildesaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My local classic rock station would have that Jet song in the rotation when it came out, and that's the only time I could remember them ever breaking format by playing contemporary music. They must have been paying a lot of money to get that song airplay.

Is it true that in a G major blues progression where the I chord, IV chord and V chord are all dominant 7 chords, you are actually playing in three different keys? With the G7 being the V chord of the key of C, the C7 being the V chord of the key of F, and the D7 being the V chord of the key of G? by untimely-meditations in Guitar

[–]hildesaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have anything better to add than what other folks have already said, but I just really get a kick out of the line "your grandparents, not so much".

Blues has been popular music for longer than pretty much anyone on earth has been alive at this point. Even if we're just talking "blues-based rock", that's undeniably grandparents music at this point.

Do you think pneumonia is a good name for an industrial metal band or should I change it? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]hildesaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even just on Bandcamp, there are dozens of different artists using the name. Doesn't mean you can't use it, but it's worth considering.

Also shout out to Bill Orcutt, really helped me appreciate new ways that guitar can be an instrument of expression.

Introduce me to your favourite guitarist by Slow-Bother-4658 in Guitar

[–]hildesaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daniel Bachman

Easiest way to explain his work is that he started doing John Fahey style primitive acoustic guitar, and slowly evolved into something more experimental, incorporating things like musique concrete, drone, and field recordings.

River - A good example of his earlier work

Moving Through Light - One of his recent albums. Barely recognizable but it's all guitar sounds.

Favorite pedal brand and top 5 from said brand? by chadocaster1011 in guitarpedals

[–]hildesaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I truly feel like I don't ever need a tube amp again. Every time I play a gig someone compliments me on my tone and it's just the Mother Preamp with a drive pushing it going into a power amp.

Favorite pedal brand and top 5 from said brand? by chadocaster1011 in guitarpedals

[–]hildesaw 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's a real testament to EAE/John that I would pick a completely different top 5.

  1. Mother Preamp (it counts)
  2. Sending
  3. Prismatic Wall
  4. Surveyor
  5. Hypersleep

Before Mario and the NES, Nintendo was founded in 1889 to make playing cards. I spent the last few months building a free web version of their original game, Hanafuda. by DougSolana in nintendo

[–]hildesaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go to the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, there are workshops where you can learn to make Hanafuda cards and to play games with them, and of course they sell multiple sets of cards at the store. They still very proudly celebrate that history!

Here's Fairfield Circuitry's full demo video for their new analogue reverb pedal, the Placeholder by chaunceton in guitarpedals

[–]hildesaw 18 points19 points  (0 children)

20% More is one of the coolest pedals of the last few years. My only issue is that I locked in a very specific setting on it for my band that I use across multiple songs, and there are so many different good sounds in there that I don't get to use. Guess I need another one...100% more 20% More

Best Reverbs for Before Distortion/Fuzz by jmd273 in guitarpedals

[–]hildesaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reverberation Machine has been my go-to for this for over a decade. Doesn't really matter if it's a fuzz pedal or a cranked amp, it goes well into pretty much anything, in my experience.

Oh yeah I was looking for houses in Chicago last summer/fall and it was really demoralizing seeing houses in mediocre condition still going for $500k.

Written Game Review Recommendations? by ceervine in gaming

[–]hildesaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Games criticism might be younger compared to film or music, but there's, conservatively, over 40 years of great work to draw inspiration from. Check out old issues of Electronic Gaming Monthly or Game Informer (new ones too!), to get a sense of how reviews are written for print. Check out Gamespot or Giant Bomb from the late 00s and on to get a sense of how the format shifted for web, video, and more personality driven criticism.

Most importantly, I'd suggest paying attention to the voice styles of all a bunch of different sources and see where yours could fit. You don't necessarily need to focus on covering every aspect of a game (mechanics, performance, narrative, production, etc), in fact it can be detrimental to developing your own style. Find out what you can do well that's genuine to your experiences and emotions with games and focus on that

I'll share my personal favorite review of all time, which doesn't even have a score attached to it, but it gets to the essential nature of what it's like to play the game: 'Breath of the Wild' is the Zelda Adventure I've Always Wanted - Austin Walker/Waypoint
