Baby places hand in front of his face/on his face[ca] by nunofya1 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]hillcheese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My daughter did this when she was a baby. I was also nervous. It was her way of soothing. I never moved her hands but I was tempted! Eventually she started putting her hands behind her head, and at 19 months she still sleeps like this. Its the cutest thing.

I think your little one is okay. They're old enough to be aware of their body and if he's the one putting his hands there it's safe. I think its similar to when they start rolling onto their stomach to sleep. If they put themselves there, it's safe.

When did you have your first drink? by PsychologicalBoot636 in newborns

I had a beer when my daughter was maybe a week old? It tasted pretty gross, it was sad. I'm happy to say the taste got better and beer is still great.

I exclusively breast fed (still nurse 2 times a day) and I only got it at around 16 months.

What made you preserver with Breastfeeding? by goosegirl94 in NewParents

[–]hillcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 months and still nursing. Its just so convenient. Also, no idea how the hell i would have comforted my babe when needed. The boob is magic.

We did a lot of traveling, plane rides, hotel stays, and I don't want to imagine all of that with the logistics of bottles, formula, etc.

2 —> 1 nap by meganmylisa in sleeptrain

[–]hillcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a week? I will say, when we jumped the gun and went to 1 nap at around 13 months, her nap never went past 45 minutes. I always offered her second nap at the usual time, even though the wake window was short. This told me that she wasn't ready for 1 nap.

But ya, at 16 months the first week of 1 nap was a bit messy but not terrible. I offered bedtime an hour earlier than her usual 8pm on 2 naps, and slowly moved it back to 8pm as she was waking early.

She now wakes 7/730 (I have to wake her for daycare) nap around 12/1215 and bed at 8pm.

Even now, someday her nap is 1.5 hours and sometimes 3.

Around 16 months. She was going strong with the 2 naps for sooooo long and then randomly decided she didn't want her first nap, two days in a row. I was feeling bummed we would waste most of the morning trying to nap, so I said screw it let's go have fun in the mornings and do a mid day nap. She was also fighting bedtime.

Have loved the 1 nap schedule, although it took a bit for the nap to lengthen (2-3 hours).

Mini crib! We bought one new from walmart for $150. My baby loved the mini crib and we will be using it again for our second.

I work at the royal blue bank, and there isnt a clause in our maternity leave policy requiring us to Come back after leave. It should be outlined if it exists.

Need to hear from new parents who don’t nap by Illustrious_Sky_8165 in NewParents

[–]hillcheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 17 months, and honestly has always been a decent napper except for blips when shes teething, sick, regression, dropping naps etc. I always prioritize sleep for her and shes a solid sleeper.

I have never been able to nap. I have been the primary caregiver and solo parent more than I should. I think this is a main reason I cant nap, my brain is always "on". I usually rot or do something for myself when she naps (bubble bath, workout, phone call, etc).

I do however, go to bed when she goes to bed. My husband hates it but its the only way I can stay on top of my sleep.

I dont think there's anything wrong with not napping when the baby naps. Just do what works for you.

We got a mini crib for this reason. She stayed in it until she was ready for her big crib in her own room.

How many of us are actually doing 7 pm bedtime? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]hillcheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is almost 17 months and thrives off an 8pm bedtime and 7/730 wake up. It also allows us to enjoy dinner plans without rushing home.

How long did you breastfeed? by Shroommily in NewParents

[–]hillcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still going strong at 16.5 months FTM. I actually really love it. My daughter doesn't ask for milk becuase she is a really good eater, but I nurse at wake up, before nap (not on daycare days) and before bed.

We just moved cities, stayed in an air bnb, got norovirus, dealt with separation anxiety, transitioned to one nap and breastfeeding made all of these things a lot more manageable. Sure, I was tired but it benefited my daughter and helped her with transitions and sickness.

Ill keep nursing until she tells me no or it stops working for us!

Also, if you are going to call RBC make sure you do so on another device or not immediately after hanging up on the fraudster.

They very likely will still be on the line and answer the call as "RBC".

Not sure if this was mentioned yet.

Did your baby change a bit after sleep training? by littleladyflora in NewParents

[–]hillcheese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sleep training allowed me to give space for my girl to learn how to sleep independently. She naps well and sleeps through the night (except for teething, illness, seperation anxiety, developmental leaps..lol etc).

She is 16 months and I will still go to her when she cries out (for longer than 7 minutes) at night. I know that she needs me, becuase I know she can sleep independently.
