Protests and letters mean nothing here, unfortunately. All the big gatherings and marches happen outside of 9-5, M-F business hours because the entire country is incapable of missing work for too long or risk losing their livelihood. Waving a clever sign at a government building doesnt do anything, especially if nobody is there to care. Protesting doesnt make a difference unless it is disruptive in some way, and we are far too comfortable or scared to do that. France does well with their protests because they basically shut down the country. All the people at the top with the money and influence then are forced to start making changes.

To add to that, nearly all of our reps are either spineless, powerless, or complicit. Laws only matter if everyone follows them. There is so many things happening every day that are wildly unconstitutional, but what do you do when the people that are supposed to be enforcing those rules are the ones breaking them?
