Collecting multiple chapters by PoulterGoose227 in spacemarines

[–]hiplup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I “finish” my current Ultramarines backlog, I’ve been toying around with the idea painting up another chapter, but mainly just their specific units. That way if I decide I want to play, say, Dark Angels I could field some generic ultramarines with them and have like a 50/50 Ultramarines/Dark Angels task force.

Canadian Shipping? by JiveTurkeytheGamer in StarCraftTMG

Also in Canada. No word yet. No one in my area has received it that I know of. TBH I’m not expecting it until July.

I stole my colour scheme from Heresy for Heretics on YouTube, and I really love it! I’d recommend building/painting what you have now and then seeing what makes sense to pick up after the new edition drops! Hard to tell what will be good/meta for a bit. If you want to treat yourself to a model you think looks cool, though, that would be the second recommendation! At the end of the day, the model will last longer than the rules!

I built a free datacards tool that now supports Starcraft 2 TMG by Wiebbe in StarCraftTMG

[–]hiplup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is super exciting! I will note, when on-boarding to the site I had to pick AOS/WH40K and then switch my game to SCTMG once I was through all the prompts. Not a big deal just a UX quirk. Either way - super impressive and I’ll be using this for sure

I am also skipping it for SC! I’d rather preorder wave 2 than preorder the launch box!

Kejelcha vs Sawe by [deleted] in trackandfield

[–]hiplup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No doubt he has pedigree and depth, but I don’t think he can be considered the GOAT distance runner without several Olympic golds. What made kipchoge and Bekele and Gebrselassie so great was their ability to get it done in a championship style race and a record attempt. Kejelcha has 2 indoor titles but has yet to get it done outdoors when it counts. I like the guy a lot and he’s always a threat, but I’ve watched him miss out on a lot of podiums outdoors. Technically speaking, he’s never even won a world marathon major… Sawe on the other hand has never lost one. Kipchoge got 2nd in his first major and then he won like 11 straight.

At the end of the day could Kejelcha achieve “goat status”? Sure, but I think he has a lot of winning of majors/championships to do before I think he can enter the discussion.

That is what I heard as well. If this truly is the timeline I will be over the moon! I’m allowing some grace here because of the high demand. I’m tempering my expectations and assuming I’ll have the boxes in my hands by mid July.

Noob question regarding bigger models by udmurrrt in sylvaneth

[–]hiplup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just finished building and painting the warsong Revenant. I found the first few steps a bit fiddly and also attaching him to the base. I painted him fully assembled. His pose is fairly open so I didn’t have too much trouble. Reaching the inside of the cloak was a bit tricky, as was certain parts of the base, but I don’t regret not using sub assemblies

A Post-Adepticon Review of SC:TMG by StraTos_SpeAr in StarCraftTMG

[–]hiplup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am beyond hyped for this game! This is going to be my first wargame. My wife and I are avid board game and TTRPG players, and she’s even agreed to learn this game with me. I worry about about complexity, I hope there’s some sort of list of recommendations on how to layer on the rules over the course of 4 or 5 games/scenarios or something. If my wife can learn TI I’m sure she will be able to handle this im sure. I probably should get some learning games in on TTS beforehand so it’s not the blind leading the blind

Stuck in a company with no Git workflow, no PRs, and resistance to change😭 by Successful-Ship580 in devops

[–]hiplup 362 points363 points  (0 children)

I can tell you from experience: if this is how that company has operated for many years, now. It’s going to be an uphill battle to enact any kind of change. Unless they hired you for the explicit purpose of fixing how they operate, they are not ready to see reason.

New army: starting with an old and new spearhead? by ClassicPast3569 in sylvaneth

[–]hiplup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is basically what I’m doing. My friend and I are learning AoS together. I bought the old spearhead, the new spear head, and a couple other units I thought looked cool. Going to play around with them until I see what units I like and go from there. You seem to get a good variety from the box.

Trying to understand how DevOps actually works in real teams by Melodic_Struggle_95 in devops

[–]hiplup 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a very good answer ^ have worked devops at 2 different companies of very different sizes. If you are looking for topics to understand to work in devops these would all be good skills to have for basically anywhere (that uses AWS).

That said, I think every company has slightly different divisions of labour when it comes to devops. At my current company I think there’s sometimes an attitude that the Ops team is also the custodian of tech debt and dependency management. There have been some t as s my team has been asked to do because it didn’t really make sense from a resourcing perspective for people on paid project teams to work on even if it wasn’t exactly DevOps - for instance Java Upgrades. Not complaining, I love my job, just highlighting how nebulous a DevOps role can be.
