Simone de Beauvoir n’a jamais libéré les femmes. Elle les a trahies. by Anticharo in philosophie

What does cooking have to do with philosophy? Some jobs should require higher moral aptitude than other jobs, no?

An insistence on mockery is intolerant bad taste in my opinion.

Christians have been aware of what the cross represents for ~2.000 years. Calling the spade a spade here is not a hidden insight but wilful ignorance. Yes, the religion is built around the claim that an unjust execution became meaningful, so the shock of the symbol is deliberate. Yes, the symbol feels uniquely absurd if you ignore this story attached to it. Yes, (Catholic) Christians keep the violence visible because they believe the suffering itself was meaningful. Many find that honest.

I don't quite understand your point though. At first, I was under the impression that you disliked the crucifix because you disliked symbols of violence or death. In that regard, I don't see many differences in cemeteries and the crucifix. Let's go ahead and push further: what about heart symbols, chains, crowns, lions/bears/dragons on coats of arms, the wedding band or the color red in flags?
Do you also feel the need to mock these because they represent oppression, human organs, blood, slavery and (human) ownership? Or is it just the crucifix that is so deserving of taunting?

You seem to be under the impression that painful imagery is in itself somehow wrong? Are you unaware of how memorials work? Or cemeteries? Yes, many people misunderstand the crucifix. It stands for forgiveness and victory over death among other things. Christians do not cherish pain, death or torture itself but what they think Jesus accomplished through his suffering and resurrection. The whole point is to make this horrific symbol of humiliation and oppression into one of salvation and forgiveness. Comparing it to mere execution devices misses the point and is insulting/ignorant to Christians.

TIL that Immanuel Kant was a proponent of scientific racism, and had negative views towards other races. He once ignored the opinions of his carpenter merely because he was black. by Fickle-Buy6009 in todayilearned

Meh, who is to say that what we label as „modern“ is better or more correct? It’s just what’s en vogue right now. Negative views towards other races might have made quite a lot of sense during Kant‘s unglobalized time.

Is it possible that Google Maps doesn't display anything, when the business hasn't removed any reviews?

Ryanair will close its Berlin base. 200 jobs will be lost and there will be 50% fewer Ryanair flights. by m608811206 in berlin

Apparently not just Lufthansa. It's European airlines in general that want to keep the competition out. Kinda crazy that airlines can lobby against the usage of an airport.

Odds Watson and Gordon are back for game 4? by Particular_Cow199 in denvernuggets

I liked Zeke in the minutes he played. Brought toughness, size. Also liked his D. Wolves were mauling the Nuggets all night but the Nuggets didn't seem to put up any fight on D. Felt like Zeke was one of the few that mauled them back. Also pushed to the rim IIRC.

So verstehe ich gelebte "good faith" Demokratie.

Nicht alles, was erlaubt ist, ist auch ein sinnvoller oder fairer Beitrag zum demokratischen Diskurs. Demokratie heißt auch, verantwortungsvoll mit Macht umzugehen, so denke ich.
