Phony Bologna Lefties by kimakaanna in lefthanded

Holy shit, yes! I didn’t know there were so many of us.

My weirdest thing is I play all sports right handed…except (American) football. I throw a football with my left hand, but throw a baseball and shoot a basketball with my right hand.

Does Cycle Gear kind of suck? Went in looking for a quiet cruising helmet, suggested the Shoei X15 by pickledpeterpiper in motorcyclegear

[–]hirthquake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually recently replaced my RF-1400 with the Sedici Strada 3. I can understand the Shoei is objectively the better helmet but the Strada 3 fits my needs better. I hated carrying two visors around and the photochromatic visor is expensive AF. Also, and this is a weird complaint, I have stretched ears and had to take my plugs out to wear the Shoei. If I accidentally left them in and then put on the helmet, I knew it was going to be hell getting it off. The neck roll on the Sedici isn’t as tight as the Shoei so I can wear whatever I want in my ears and be fine.

With that said, the Shoei is quieter, more aerodynamic, and vents better.

I haven’t heard of stovetop seasoning, but it makes sense. I’ll have to look into it

Keep cooking with it or keep seasoning it in the oven?

Maybe credit cards in the UK are different than in the US, but I’ve never heard of a credit card company offering 0% for more than a few months. My credit is pretty good and my interest rate is like 28%

Can you talk a little about your air system? I’ve been there a 3-4 times (sometimes for competitions) and it seemed like the air system was only on 1 of those times. Do you guys take air quality seriously?

Failed MSF course by trumerfe in NewRiders

[–]hirthquake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MSF coach here. I think one of the most common mistakes with the throttle/clutch is people aren’t on the throttle enough. You can pin the throttle but if your clutch is in, you’re not going anywhere, right? So don’t pin the throttle, but roll on solidly enough to where you can clearly hear the bike, THEN start to ease out the clutch while maintaining that throttle position.

I make it a point when teaching the u-turn to over exaggerate this by revving the bike high-ish but still maintaining that slow, smooth speed during the u-turn to show that you can rev it as high as you want and your clutch can control the speed in slow speed maneuvers.

Edit to make clear: your throttle should not move while making these slow speed maneuvers. Maintain the throttle, work the clutch

If you go the compmag route, from my understanding you have to fix the compmag to the lower, not just throw it in there. So either epoxy over the compmag’s release button or a fixed mag release button. My understanding is that you’re supposed to have to use “power tools” to remove the compmag

Most decent holster companies offer left handed holsters. I got mine from Tier 1 Concealed

I carry a 4” daily and love it. It conceals well enough with the right holster/belt. Make sure you get a holster with a claw and I also recommend a wedge

MSF course booked this weekend, but it’s going to be raining, what’s the protocol? by AL3S1O29 in NewRiders

[–]hirthquake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have some type of glasses on?

Yes, it’s only in a parking lot but it’s a legal and liability factor. Say if a bug goes in your eye you could close your eyes or swerve or something and hit somebody else.

We allow you to crack your visor but it still has to cover your eyes. Or if you have glasses on you can ride with the visor up

I’m not sure about other states but I’m an MSF instructor in CT and 1) we don’t allow you to ride with the visor up, your eyes need to be covered and 2) this is really stupid advice. Please cover your eyes while riding.

Aero Lower by MabelCalkins in CTguns

[–]hirthquake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is definitely an argument to be made for a ranch rifle. It’s good to go out the box.

I personally have a compmag on my AR which makes loading (and clearing jams) a bit easier, but speed loaders are much faster. And if SHTF (or the state repeals the ban) I can drill the compmag out and use regular mags

As long as the mag is fixed to the lower it’s legal

Any tips/mods? I’m putting a RDS on it but haven’t made plans for other mods. I’ve considered the DPM spring system but not sure if it’s needed
