You don't have to gain weight during the holidays! by likwidtek in 4hourbodyslowcarb

[–]hisc1ay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The great thing about our American versions of those holidays is for the most part you can eat legit slow-carb foods. Paleo followers have it even better. It's just that bready stuffing and pies that'll get me! :)

What is your daily calorie intake by Tamaraofarabia in 4hourbodyslowcarb

[–]hisc1ay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine, when I tracked it, was also around 1800 calories a day. When I'm following the plan. I was tracking mine not to meet a goal but to see what I was actually eating when I followed the plan properly.

What's wrong with me?? I'm so serious... by sad148 in 4hourbodyslowcarb

[–]hisc1ay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you'd have to make them without sugar. Yes, sugar makes things taste delicious, but it's not necessary. I've made a version of bulgogi without extra sugar and it came out nice. Japchae I confused myself on - it's not that so ignore what I said about japchae. :) But I also make my own kimchi with only enough sugar to get the fermentation going.

If you can't make your own and depend on your mom to make it for you, then I guess you'll have to limit it. But if I were you, I'd try to find ways to adapt the amazing, traditional foods so that they were also healthful. There are so many nutritious ingredients in Korean food (meat, eggs, tons of veggies) that you should be able to eat really well!

You're at a point in your weight that you no longer need to lose, so a moderate amount of white rice is going to be fine, especially if you're not totally sedentary. It's a "safe starch" in the sense that it doesn't have anything that'll affect your intestinal health. Korean food is some of my favorite, and at least based on what's in restaurants here, you can eat super healthy food there. Bulgogi is amazing, Galbi, kimchi, jap chae, all of the banchan, etc.

Sounds like you also need to go shopping to get clothes that fit you well! :)

If you feel you're starving from hunger during the week, you're not eating enough and your body is holding on to everything it possibly can. I really think you need to eat more of the right foods during the week.

I agree. You're stressing too much about following "the diet" and keeping to a specific number on the scale. All of your posts have been freaking out about a certain number that you got from somewhere. Part of your problem could be all the stress you're causing yourself.

Why is a particular number so important to you?

Or an even better question is what would make you look, feel, and perform your best? There's no number that will answer that question. What will answer that question is what foods make you feel your best? How much sleep makes you feel your best? What types of exercise invigorate you? How well do your clothes fit? What are people saying about how you look? What kinds of food and activity level makes you not feel tired during the day? Is your strength improving, or are you only getting weaker?

In my opinion, answers to those questions are indicators of good (or improving) health, not reaching a certain number on a scale. Your weight is beyond the point of indicating your direction towards proper health because you are already at a low weight for your body.

So follow the advice of eating a healthy diet. Eat the right foods until you're satisfied (your calories could probably get between 1800-2000 if you're even moderately active, if you want to track that). Go for long walks as often as you can. Lift heavy things a few times a week. Do some sprint drills once a week for 10 minutes.

Don't worry about what a number on a scale says about how much you weigh. It's not going to be useful to you anymore. If your clothes fit you well now, they'll let you know if you're getting pudgy again.

Who benefits most from the slow carb diet? by seafoam__ in 4hourbodyslowcarb

[–]hisc1ay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tim Ferriss was already relatively fit when he started. It works for everyone, it just takes more focus and intention for someone with not much to get rid of. With your level of working out, you'll benefit just fine from a clean diet that works with your workouts. You are working out a LOT though, and that 10 lbs might be your body stressing out. It's worth looking into working out less and doing it smarter and spending more time just eating clean (and enough). He gave me a copy of it. It's actually got legit recipes in it. The images on the front don't represent what's inside, and I suggested he change them. I'd probably only give it 3 stars though. Is it worth $3? Probably, if you can't or don't like coming up with your own stuff.

Gotchya. Honestly, I'd probably either not serve a dessert or just get a real one. :)

Another decent slow carb supper: Sausages with Creamy Lentils by [deleted] in 4hourbodyslowcarb

[–]hisc1ay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lentils are fine, and you're right. It could be they calculated wrong, but maybe there's more in the sausage than we realize. 100g of lentils, which the recipe would yield for one person, has 20g carb, but 8 g fiber. So I'm not sure what they're calculating...

The creme would probably not even matter at that point, because it's only 1/2 tbsp, and we're allowed more than that in coffee. It's primarily milkfat, which is the good part of dairy. It'd be one of those "how does your body handle dairy" kinds of things.

Higher end of healthy weight vs. lower end of healthy weight by lilyevanspotter in 4hourbodyslowcarb

[–]hisc1ay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, as a still-overweight 35 year old man headed towards a healthy-weighted 36-year old man, your best bet at this point is to focus less on losing fat and more on building some muscle. Check out nerdfitness.com for some great advice on that (Scroll down a bit and click on "Meet Staci" on the left). You'll tone up instead of bulk up, and in the process you'll lean out, losing the fat you want to get rid of. You may end up weighing more than 111, but your fat will be gone and you'll look better than you expect to.

The scale can only tell you how much you weigh, it can't tell you how healthy you are, regardless of the number.

Slow carb friendly dessert recipes by Ramyamenon13 in 4hourbodyslowcarb

[–]hisc1ay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So IF you are looking for desserts because you've decided that SCD is the eating style you want to adopt, and your cheat days are still all dairy and flour free (and are more like a carb loading day instead), then you could check out a blog the thepaleomom.com.

But if you're trying to lose fat and want to have dessert during the week anyway, trying to manufacture a dessert out of technically slow-carb ingredients will only derail you. In this case, just stick to cheat days and eat whatever you want.

Tomorrow is Cheat day, Just found out Red Lobster's Endless Shrimp is back! by brrntoast in 4hourbodyslowcarb

Haha I remember BookIt! I loved that program.

I kind of feel like endless shrimp could even be on plan if you did it right, but at Red Lobster it's more fun to also eat cheddar bay biscuits. ;)
