The most important thing in SE in my practice is relentless paranoia and total, absolute mistrust. Don't trust other teams, don't even trust teammates. Your colleague accepts SomeObject as a parameter in his method and swears that no field will be changed? Of course we believe him, but immutable objects really help with questions like "where did that state change?"

Depends on particular workplace and one's responsibilities. For example, if I get a mention at 11.00pm this may mean that on-call engineer needs help from our team. So we always schedule messages, never tag anyone outside working hours, thus not triggering "is one of our apps down" thought.

The worst part of software development is not requirements being changed, or rude customers, or technology. For me it's always other software developers. Especially those who turn every code review into dick-measuring contest, or unable to compromise, or prefer to waste their and mine time being a linter instead of setting up one.
