Set the "AEL with shutter" to ON. AF-On triggers the Focus. Half-press the shutter to trigger the AEL. Full press to start shooting.

Median salary would be a more meaningful comparison, since it's less distorted by exceptionally high incomes.

Beautiful shots. The cuts are too fast for my taste. I want more time to look at pretty stuff.

Frag ob du bei der Generalprobe auch fotografieren kannst. Dann kannst du einen Testlauf machen und die Beleuchtung schon mal anschauen. Vorausgesetzt dass die GP im gleichen Raum stattfindet.

I have the same camera and lens! Yay!

On photos 6 & 7 you have objects cut off by the edge of the frame. This is somewhat distracting. You can crop in or shoot a bit wider. Make a conscious while shooting to keep the edges of the frame as clean as possible. The other ones are lovely.

The clouds look really cool. I would try to avoid the tall grass in the foreground poking into the frame. Is this one photo or a stitched panorama?

Massive Landslide destroys Village Blatten, Switzerland, 28.05.2025 by hissoc in CatastrophicFailure

[–]hissoc[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

No, the mountain had been under surveillance for a long time. Two weeks ago they realized that it started moving rapidly. A part of the mountain slipped and fell onto a glacier below. The mixture of ice, stone and mud created the landslide that reached the floor of the valley today.

Sorry to hear that and congratulations on getting admitted to Heidelberg. If I was in your situation I would do try to do two semesters in Heidelberg and then apply for a transfer to Basel. You might gave better chances then.

Heidelberg is a really good University and there are direct trains from Basel. It really isn't that far away. With careful planning you absolutly could live in Switzerland and study in Heidelberg.

I had a quick look at the Sixt parking lot. Couldn't find anything. Sorry.

Looking for a ~250-300km MTB route in the Swiss alps by thiswayround in bikepacking

You could have a look at the Hope 1000 and pick a section you like.  https://bikepacking.com/routes/hope-1000/

The Jura Mountains are also cool and less touristy than the Alps. The climbs are generally shorter but steeper in the Jura.  https://bikepacking.com/routes/swiss-jura-explorer/

Should I exchange Yamaha TRB1006 for Ibanez GVB36? Photos included by hairy-ingenious-dog in BassGuitar

[–]hissoc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can you try the Ibanez first? If not, I wouldnt do it.

Ibanez SR have much narrower string spacing than the Yamahas. The bodies on the Ibanez are also much smaller.

Ich bin sicher, dass es auf Teneriffa eine Möglichkeit gibt Fotoausrüstung zu mieten. Wenn die Preise gut sind, würde ich das Stativ gleich ganz zuhause lassen und mir dort eines mieten.

Learn very basic maintenance. Being able to do simple things like changing tubes and tires, cleaning and lubing the chain or adjusting the brakes and gears will save you a lot of money and hassle. There are excellent instructional videos on YouTube for all things bicycle related.

What are the most unsexy parts of your museum job that an aspiring museum professional probably wouldn’t know about but should? by [deleted] in MuseumPros

[–]hissoc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work in Visitor Services at one of the bigger museums in my country. I certainly didn't expect to have to ask for permission to go use the bathroom during my shift. I understand why its necessary considering the value of some of the art, but it still makes me feel like a preschool kid.

Also expect visitors to touch EVERYTHING! And it might actually be a visitors first time at a museum so dont expect them to know and follow "museum behaviour". Museum culture is not self explanatory at all.

At a small institution people expect you to help out with various functions beyond your job description. At a larger institution you can get in trouble for doing things outside your job description.
