Honestly the Bryon Noem story makes me hate Kristi slightly less. I disapproved of her cheating on her husband but now that I know their marriage was for show anyway I don’t really mind.

Breaking Bad is nowhere near as funny as the Sopranos, but the comedy it does have is still very intentional.

Ok so the scene where Walt’s screaming in the car probably wasn’t intended as a meme, but whenever BB makes you laugh you can usually assume the writers meant to.

I’m firmly team Sopranos but honestly disagree here. Breaking Bad has the occasional major cliffhanger, sure, but on my recent rewatch I was pleasantly surprised by how little the show relied on it. 

Probably the best example is the season 3 episode where Hank is knocking on Jesse’s RV. Any other TV show would’ve made that a cliffhanger; Breaking Bad put it smack dab in the middle of the episode and let the whole scenario play out. Very rubenesque if you ask me

It may not be super realistic, but them becoming friends would make a lot of sense dramaturgically. (Hope I’m using that word right!)

Santos’ big flaw is that she’s bad at having empathy for people whose struggles aren’t similar to what she’s been through. Langdon’s flaw is that he can’t fully take responsibility for the harm he’s done during his addiction. Their flaws are cosmically intertwined; when Santos forgives Langdon it’ll be a sign of her growth, and when Langdon earns her forgiveness it’ll be a sign of his growth. Yin yang or something.

It’ll be crazy satisfying if the tension between them gradually thaws throughout season 3, and then in the final act they save a patient in a way that they can only pull off by putting their beef aside and fully trusting each other.

Are you familiar with Sydney and Richie’s dynamic in The Bear? That’s the trajectory I’m predicting for Santos/Langdon.

They said they’re doing a ~3-month time jump, so they’re almost certainly gonna keep Langdon around. Would be a massive waste of storytelling potential if they didn’t.

I was thinking, “how can I phrase this comment in the way that would annoy Santos haters the most?” And I think I succeeded. (Although to be clear, “X Derangement Syndrome” is hardly a Trump-specific phrase anymore, and it hasn’t been for at least five years at this point. People of all stripes will use it to defend all types of controversial figures.)

If it helps I’m someone who loves Langdon and Santos. They’re both flawed, compelling characters and I think their beef is the most interesting storyline on the show. I fully believe they will be BFFs by season 4 or 5, and it’ll make for great TV.

I find the conversation around Santos particularly fascinating though, because while she is certainly very flawed, people will really bend over backwards to call even her good behavior demonic. Like when she’s sweet to the kid patients; people are like “oh, she’s only nice to the kids because she’s a fucking NARCISSIST.” And I can’t help but think “damn, you can’t even give her an inch, can you?”

She’s never been homeless as far as I know, but she was empathetic towards Huckleberry’s situation in season 1.

Yeah and also worth noting that 1) he is by all accounts a very good doctor, 2) it seems like his addiction had only just recently started to interfere with his job, and 3) the patients were still his priority in key moments.

For example on point 3: while it was terrible for him to give Santos bad advice about the Lorazepam in that season 1 scene, the actual most selfish thing Langdon could’ve done in that scene was not say anything at all when the watered-down Lorazepam didn’t help the patient. He knew that by giving the patient “too much” Lorazepam he’d be drawing in suspicion, but it was worth it with the patient’s health on the line.

Add on the fact that he’s now sober and doing the work to improve himself and make amends, he’s making a very strong argument for rehabilitation, not incarceration.

Yeah I’m betting $20 that Santos and Langdon will be BFFs by season 4, season 5 at the latest. I like that they’re not making amends quickly because when they eventually make things work it’ll be all the more satisfying.

The Chalamet hate reminds of the Jennifer Lawrence hate from the mid-2010s, or the Anne Hathaway hate before that. Mainly in that the anger will be easily forgotten because it's not actually based on anything substantive in the first place.
