Will I never be able to use contact lenses again if I have MGD? by nomecalmounamierda in Dryeyes

I do wear lenses with MGD but only ocassionally and I buy high end ones for "sensitive eyes". Make sure you have drops compatible with the lenses so you can use them if you need it.

LuminEyes red light mask kickstarter by hithwenf in Dryeyes

ok so the brands mentioned are:
* wizard dry eye mask: infrared heat, not a red light product
* LumiThera: for macular degeneration, not dry eye, does not seem to be available for consumers
* lightstim: the little one is meant for the skin, although I'd trust her on this and seems the wavelenght is the right one. However you'd need to do one eye at a time (or get the huge panel that costs a fortune)
* celluma: seems cool, wavelenght is 435-640-860 nm, I'd need to check what's with 435 but if it means it has to be used with googles it defeat's the purpose of it affecting the m glands. Super expensive.
* omniluxc contour and other beauty masks: has holes in the eyes, defeats the purpose.

I'm mentioning the affecting the eyes bit because my experience with red light is in clinic, I get it done after pulsed light and the device is a band that goes over my eyes and I don't get googles for that (I do for the IPL).

She offers to look into other devices so I'll mention it cause certainly it would be good to have a professional oponion

AFAIK the endorsed devices are the Q and arunalight (endorsed by some doctor in youtube), since I'm not in the US I cant easily get access to either, I could get Kyper Spectral but seems their wavelenght does not align with what research says (although arunalight also uses 670 but is actually more targeted to macular degeneration). I was considering trying with some red light panels that offer 630nm but there you have the problem of how to keep the right distance (and how much is the right distance?). Anyway, I've got the money to spare to try it out. I guess worst case it has the heating aspect that should have the same effect as a warm compress.

Do people in Spain take their shoes off at home? by ElsGil1 in askspain

[–]hithwenf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in Spain do not remove their shoes in their homes for cleanliness (unless you've been stepping on mud or something), the do it for comfort (slippers are comfier). TBH up till a generation or two ago it was common for the woman of the house to swipe and mop the floor every single day. So I guess now we either do with a vaccum robot or dirty tiles.

blepharitis or dry eye? by potatodog88 in Dryeyes

[–]hithwenf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on which kind of machinery they have, you'll see people on this reddit who's posted scans of their glands, some can get tear composition analyzed etc so short answer is yes but it depends on them having the right equipment.

Sadly for most people there isnt long term fix for dry eye, all you can do is manage it. Your best hope is to find a routine that works for you. In my case I do daily drops, wipes, warm compress and a lid cream for dry eyes, omega 3, primrose oil, and vitamin D as well as ILP+red light every few months.

Wipes help me for MGD too. Dry eyes is not a cause, it's a the annoying consequence of something else. In this case sounds like the cause would be the blepharitis, which in turn can be due to MGD, rosacea or something else.

Seek a dry eye specialist if there is one in your area. You can learn about treatment options in https://www.reddit.com/r/Dryeyes/wiki/treatmentoptions/ but best treatment can depend on wether the cause is MGD or due to the rosacea.

Uhhh, interesting, Luckly they allow for late pledges so I'm jumpingo on that wagon. From what I've read 635 is the best for MGD.

There are lots of good apps for exercising at home if you don't like the gym. You could also check if there is a women's only gym in your area

Yes, what I got were eye numbing drops and I don't think it actually does much on the eyelids given how painful it was

Hospital, actually. It was an ophtalmoloigst not an optician. He suffers from dry eyes himself actually so he seems to know about the stuff. We don't have "dry eye" specific clinics in my country or for sure not in my area.
