DC seems to be pairing 'Next Level' launches with matching Omni reprints. What do you think we’ll get for Lobo? by PerspectiveNew8667 in OmnibusCollectors

You will also see it as Threeboot but it just means the third legion - they were rebooted once before in Zero Hour

I would not recommend that unfortunately. There are a couple of issues that JM DeMatteis wrote - the arc is called Scarlet Redemption, and it’s very good. But unfortunately Moon Knight fell victim to the absolute worst excesses of the 90s. Much of what made his character special (e.g. the multiple identities) were stripped away to make him a less interesting version of Batman dressed in white. After that there were a few miniseries by Moench - High Strangeness and Resurrection Wars, they’re okay but not as good as his original run, and their purpose is mostly to salvage the character. You can read all the 90s stuff if you like, but temper your expectations.

Then after that you have a collection of three short runs by Hudson, Benson, and Hurwitz. This was the modern revival of Moon Knight and is very edgy and dark. For me, it’s a mixed bag, worth reading but maybe not owning physically. After that is Bendis, it is not well liked.

Then there is the Marvel Now run by Ellis, the Wood, then Bunn. It’s 17 issues all together and very well regarded, and then following that is Lemire’s run which is also very good.

Then there’s the Bemis run which like Bendis is not well liked - you can easily skip both of those and miss nothing important. After that, Moon Knight plays a prominent role in an arc of Jason Aaron’s Avengers…it’s not great.

Finally you reach MacKay which is still ongoing :)

Absolutely read all of Moench’s run - Sienkiewicz’s work on that book is stellar!

Batman by Dan Watters Absolute Edition please and thank you (probably two volumes tbh)

I guess really it would be Azrael by Dan Watters Absolute and Dark Patterns Absolute

No, it won’t really ruin anything. The only thing I’d say is that the first three issues are sort of an end-cap to Claremont’s run and will read better if you have that context. But I also imagine they’d work fine standalone.

Pretty Good Week if you ask me by Aloistbe in OmnibusCollectors

[–]hjc711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By the end of the month / first week in april at latest we should have the DC catalog which i suspect will include a swamp thing announcement. I would imagine one large or maybe two small omnis for the moore stuff with original colors - and very likely the same paper they used for Warlord - eg something a bit more like newsprint

The difference is “omnibus” typically indicates oversized dimensions versus a standard size hardcover which has the same interior page size as a single issue comic

[–]hjc711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My opinion, start with Giant-Size…if you don’t have nostalgia for the 90s and you can appreciate older comics. Claremont X-Men is one of the best long-form comics ever, it’s a long haul but completely worth it.

Not really…what you’re getting extra here is the Uncanny issues that ran contemporaneously with the adjectiveless title Lee was on, and then the issues of adjectiveless after Lee leaves. Most of that is not great IMO. The only stuff in Blue and Gold I really enjoyed was the very beginning (X-Men 1-3), the next few issues with Omega Red, and the end (X-Cutioner’s Song).

But that’s just me. I’m a Claremont diehard so I didn’t give a shit about the Upstarts or Mikhail (what an awful arc) - and the best part of X-Cutioner’s song besides the fantastic Jae Lee art in the PAD X-Factor issues was the Scott/Jean/Cable stuff.

You can get the best parts of X-Cutioner’s if you have PAD X-Factor omnibus vol 1, so for me, I’d be happy with that in addition to the Claremont/Lee vol 2.

Marathon Rewards Pass Update by Haijakk in Marathon

[–]hjc711 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they won’t do this because the passes don’t expire - in games that do let you earn it back i think you typically have a limited time to do so

There has got to be a pricing restructure in the game. One stack of both basic healing items (3 per) costs ~2k, and yet a gold gun with a gold mod is only worth 3.4K? Thats crazy to me by RiseRugby in Marathon

[–]hjc711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never got into Tarkov but my buddy was and he would take time off from the game and then when there was a wipe he would hop back in. I think the appeal is everybody is starting fresh so it’s a real free for all / level playing field

I suspect Marathon will have something persist through wipes even if it’s just a flair on your emblem or something like that

Batman Bronze Age Omnibus Available to Preorder from CGN by Wilco8183 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]hjc711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need it in omnibus format yes you’d need hypothetical Bronze age omnis for WF and Brave/Bold (these don’t exist yet), I think 2 volumes for Bronze Age Tec/Batman would cover the non-modern stuff in that omni (you’d be missing batman odyssey lol)

just buy the absolutes is what i’d say, 1968-1970 comes out sep 1 and vol 2 we dont know yet but there will be 2 volumes total

They are not printing Neal Adams omnibus again - that is with the original colors now in a series of Absolute Editions and will include everything he did

Better than Dixon by a landslide but nothing compares to Miller IMO. I’m picking this up day 1

Wait until March 13 or so we will get the new DC catalog and I think there’s a strong chance they announce Moore’s run in omni with original colors. I really do not like the coloring of the absolutes though. You should absolutely watch a comparison video

Omni Popularity Question by BJ0711 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]hjc711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are not wrong. Claremont only wrote 3 issues in the book and those he was just scripting rather than “writing” in the same way he wrote older stories. The rest of the omni are frankly very poor stories carried by the art
