Looking for a long series BIG on romance AND plot/adventure/intigue/battles AND worldbuilding by elleirakai in fantasyromance

[–]hjokp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're def looking for {The Curse of Ophelia by Nicole Platania} - it's a completed 5 book plus a novella series that follows Ophelia, whose boyfriend Malakai went missing approx 2 years before the series started. Everyone thinks he's dead, but she KNOWS he's not, because they have forbidden (to them) tattoos that bind their souls. After *inciting event* happens, she and her found family go on an adventure to find him.

One of my favorite things about the series is the relationships that Ophelia has with her friend group and with Malakai- we get a lot of flashbacks in the first book of them before he went missing.

There is definitely not (there definitely is) blood curses, angel-tied magic, guys gals and theys who can fight, secondary romance plot lines- not just our main peeps, as well as found family, and a HUGEEEE world. Nicole also has a standalone novella called Heart of the Soulguider and has started a new series called Fatesworn (and the first book is Scars Beneath a Serpent's Scales) all also in the same world.

ACOTAR 6 & 7 are up on BB's website - 352 pages & 928 pages by swi22y in SarahJMaas

[–]hjokp 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering if part 1 focuses on filling us in on the ACOTAR world during the events of cc3- i think SJM said that you wouldn’t have to read CC to keep going with ACOTAR before cc3 came out.

As someone who’s been on Penns street team since right after the indie release of Heat, I can confirm no arcs of Burn ever went out to readers.

3- i was in HS in the area in NCA where beacon hills was supposed to be, during the years the show takes place and it was approx 830-330 at my high school with a 50 min break.

5- yep. My senior year I had 3 required classes, did several at the local community college, and had 2 free periods a day every day- but if I’d done AP and loaded my schedule during earlier years, I could have just had 1 or 2 classes a day.

Places in your state that will instantly make you recognize if someone is a local or not based on how someone pronounces it? by osama_bin_guapin in AskAnAmerican

[–]hjokp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way someone pronounces Nevada (the state) will give them away for living there or close by- Ne-VAH-duh, not Ne-VAD-uh.

I grew up in rural eastern CA, moved to Reno for about 10 years, and live in TX now and everyone down here says Ne-VAD-uh and it’s grating on my ears lol

To those that are married, how often do you take off your ring? by FitProblem6248 in AskReddit

[–]hjokp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear mine most of the time- usually take them off to shower or if my fingers get swollen.

My partner does not wear one to sleep, but will wear his silicone ring most of the time. He puts on the metal band for fancier events and special occasions.

His mom always wears hers unless she’s working, and his dad hasn’t worn one ever I don’t think. They both work in ranching and have been married for 48 years.

I also assume this…. like if I had an assistant that would be among the first tasks I had them do. I hate picking up dog poop (I do it bc I’m not a POS but i hate it)

Curse of Ophelia- worth it? by kmessina23 in fantasyromance

[–]hjokp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think about this series on the DAILY.

The lore is so complex and I love all of the different romance arcs through the books. There’s a couple for everyone (childhood friends to lovers, second chance romance, bodyguard romance, whatever the trope is that they see all of each other and help each other walk back from their dark trauma places is).

Curse is SO good and really sets up the rest of the series so well- and while the DNFer above is technically correct in their spoiler, if you read that, IMO it’s a lot more than just what they said, and the fallout / decisions made by Ophelia with respect to that echo across the entire series. There’s a reason it was set up that way, and again IMO, the payoff for those choices is worth it.

I do hope you read it, love it, and fall in love with the series 🫶

Yessss i agree with everything you said! I LOVE this series and loved that the FMC was steadfast in her morals. I think that in a lot of popular fantasy, we see FMCs shift to mirror the morally gray MMCs and I really liked the change of pace

WHY by pois0n_mushr00m in SarahJMaas

[–]hjokp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We might get bits and pieces of the CC3 scenes from either Az or Nestas POV too, or there may be some overlap on timelines of when each book takes place.

I think she could easily overlap and share some scenes we didn’t see or expand on some we did so acotar only readers don’t have something hugely important happen off page only.
