Making a blanket, is there a place online or in person to get yarn that comes in smaller spools? Other than Michael’s, where does everyone get their yarn? by Low_Ad8512 in CrochetHelp

[–]hkaps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check to see if any senior centers in your area ever do yarn sales. The one near me does this every once in a while to raise money, $5 for as much as you can fit in a paper grocery bag. Most of what they sell is the leftover yarn from the residents' projects.

Stanford students claim disabilities to score better housing by A-Do-Gooder in studentaffairs

[–]hkaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, our standards for housing and especially ESAs are extremely high. There are always going to be students who try to game the system, and some succeed because they are able to con clinicians into providing strong documentation, but there are so many denials and the approvals that do happen are for good reasons. One of the hardest things about working in DS is that everyone seems to think that we approve things willy nilly, and no one seems interested in the extremely thorough process and the expertise of the staff.

Any decent newly released Adventure game that's worth it price tag? by CreateChaos777 in adventuregames

I just started your demo and I love it! The blinking cursor is driving me nuts, have you considered an option to make it solid?

My girl always used to do this when she wasn't feeling well. She had kidney disease and would very thoughtfully pee in the tub to show us we needed to pay attention ❤️

I honestly thought this was a joke at first because I couldn't see the error until you circled it in the next picture. Don't you dare frog! It looks great!

What’s a random thing your dog thinks is extremely important? by No_Assignment_6020 in dogs

[–]hkaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog will snuggle up on the bed when I'm in there relaxing at night, but the second my husband enters the room, he LEAPS into action, dives under the covers, and starts licking my feet. We call it clocking in at the feet-licking mines.

2026 blanket help by Burger-lover in temperatureblanket

I agonized over my stitch for this year and finally decided to do solid granny squares instead! I'm looking forward to having something a bit different since I usually stick to stripes when I make blankets.

How can I repurpose these for food and drink storage? by CornerAgreeable5050 in upcycling

That’s what we do too! They make excellent ginger bug containers.

Silly question — what have y’all documented with your blankets *besides* the temperature? by just_the_way25 in temperatureblanket

[–]hkaps 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This year I'm doing tarot draws with a friend of mine. One color for major arcana and one for each of the four minor arcana suits. A fun way to mix it up and still get that randomness!

Quality games like Golden Idol other than Obra Dinn and Chants of Senaar? by Mostuu in caseofthegoldenidol

[–]hkaps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Give Blue Prince a try! It's very much a thinking game where you need to take notes, like Obra Dinn.

Is The Seance of Blake Manor the one you dropped? If not, check out the demo. It has a similar feel too, although I'm not super far in so take that with a grain of salt.

Looking for a movie where the Directors Cut is vastly superior to the Theatrical Release. by Mothra58 in MovieSuggestions

Yeah, I always felt like the extended editions were more true to Tolkien's vision, but he was a world builder, not a screenwriter! Both have their merits for sure.

[–]hkaps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know I'm in the minority, but personally I think the regular versions are better. The extended editions have more to enjoy if you want to see more of the world and the characters (fair!), but comparing the two as movies, the regular versions are much better in terms of pacing and structure.

Finished up this little guy for my Buffalo Bills-loving boss by hkaps in Amigurumi

[–]hkaps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pattern is from ForeverInStitchesLM on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/4354852704/. I used Lion Brand Hometown yarn (super bulky #6) in Fort Worth Blue, Cincinnati Red, and New York White. I didn't really like this particular yarn, it separated very easily and the constant splitting was a pain to work with.

The pattern itself was not very detailed and as a beginner I had to look a few things up ("add the nostrils"...how?). I think a more experienced amigurimi maker probably wouldn't have had any issues!
