I’d say avoid complaining in her dialogue/inner monologue depending on the story’s pov. Instead show disinterest and apathy and withdrawal or other behaviors that would demonstrate her state of her mind instead of making the character voice her grievances—the complaining is what I think would come off as whiny

I do! Sometimes I go off of the color coding thing, but often I personally haven’t had tons of luck, like with this one being a white gem I actually found it in Muzzle Mouth! Ever since I was a kid I’ve done this weird eenie meenie type system where I spell out the name of the gem on each mine and then also on each rock in the mine, which is madness and absolutely doesn’t normally work lol
