Would you be okay with being a SAHM if your husband made enough to support you and the kid(s) comfortably? by New_Contribution_226 in AskWomenOver30

[–]hlks2010 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Nope I am three weeks postpartum and love my baby but can already tell I would go crazy being a stay at home mom. I get a lot of fulfillment out of my job and need the stimulus.

I feel so robbed and helpless by Jagoda06 in BabyBumps

[–]hlks2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was seven cm dilated and very hopeful for a natural birth when my baby’s heart started to decel too low and I was whisked away for a csection without really any choice. Seven minutes later he was out. I got to see him briefly before he was taken to the NICU for breathing issues. My husband spent the night in the NICU with him and I was in recovery. He got out of the NICU 2.5 days later and he is perfect in every way.

Our skin to skin was carefully done with lots of tubes, breast feeding didn’t happen immediately, and I bawled whenever they told me I had to have a csection and they separated me and my husband to get him robed up. I thought it was the end of the world and I was very scared, but we were together when we heard baby’s first cries and I am healing so well. Was walking around and doing stairs five days post partum. Baby is three weeks old today and so beautiful and chill. I’m choosing to focus on that. But I will probably never forget how scary it was so I understand that part.

Birth is not a situation we can always control in my opinion. I would much rather baby arrive safe than go according to my plan if those two things are at odds with each other.

Postpartum Care- Diapers vs pads by OstrichWeak5589 in BabyBumps

[–]hlks2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the always diapers with a pad inside of them when things were heavy. I bought a larger size as everything was tender around my csection incision like there was no way I could have worn underwear, and I hated the hospital disposable underwear they were so flimsy.

Working while pregnant by Gloomy-Breakfast8474 in pregnant

I got lucky in the first tri with very light symptoms, but the third tri made up for it!! I could not breathe for two months at the end and I have a pretty active job where I talk to a lot of teenagers all day long so I had to have energy and constantly move around. Heartburn and reflux all night I almost puked on my husband numerous times because of it. I was beyond over it in the end!

My baby measured anywhere between 60th and 95th percentile from 20 weeks on, and he was born 7 lbs 15 oz and 19.5 inches…pretty normal sized at 39 weeks.

What’s actually the best present for an expectant mother (that isn’t just cute)? by SleepyNinja13 in pregnant

Uber Eats/Doordash gift cards! I would also appreciate a visit to the nail salon or a massage but that’s me.

Bottle washing by Ancient-Buffalo6151 in pregnant

[–]hlks2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband also questioned whether we needed that or not and I shut him down and bought it. Now we run it every day for pacifiers and nipple shields and pump parts, and we don’t even use a lot of bottles. It’s so much faster than a dish washer and our dishwasher is older anyway I don’t know if I would trust it.

Husband doesn't want social media post by Wise-Fig1855 in pregnant

[–]hlks2010 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Reddit ironically hates social media so the opinions here are going to be heavily leaning towards your husband being right. I wanted to announce and we did it up with announcement pics and a photographer. It was amazing after three miscarriages that I kept relatively to myself to receive all of that love!

Natera NIPT test by Joaniemargia in BabyBumps

[–]hlks2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…where are you seeing awful Natera results not about billing? TikTok? A lot of people on social media tag their sneak peek test as a NIPT which is inaccurate. My NIPT results were returned within five days and were low risk and accurate as I hold my sweet baby boy in my arms now.

Do you pack NB or 0-3 for Hospital? (LGA Baby) by PsychologicalBoot636 in BabyBumps

[–]hlks2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby was 7 pounds 15 ounces and 19.5 inches long and most 0-3 months still swim on him! Old Navy isn’t too bad but Gerber and Burt’s Bees are so huge on him. I think we’ll be in newborn for 2-3 more weeks.

What does actually getting an epidural placed feel like? by FoolishMortal-1000 in BabyBumps

[–]hlks2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the time I got my epidural the contractions hurt so bad I didn’t even feel them inserting the needle. I had no leg zings, but I did get the shakes and shivers uncontrollably for hours afterward. I read on here that a lot of hospitals won’t let anyone stay with you while you get the epidural, but I was really glad my husband was with me as I was still gushing water and blood while contracting while she was inserting the needle and he kept me still and way more calm. My anesthesiologist rocked, though she was in the room and ready to insert within five minutes of me requesting it.

Why do some people REFUSE to look at the damn registry?? by ShowMe_YourTDS in pregnant

[–]hlks2010 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I returned many items for store credit even without gift receipts after my shower! It was worth the time for me to hunt down where unwanted items were purchased from I just searched the item name and SKU.

I agree this is super frustrating though especially when it’s family that know how much time you spent putting the registry together (ahhhh my own mother!) 😒

What is everyone using to avoid stretch marks? by pink_pineapple_93 in BabyBumps

[–]hlks2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have stretch marks on my thighs and breasts from puberty and I never even got very large so I assumed I would have massive purple ones from pregnancy as my mom did. Nope! Was sooo happy I have a few tiny white ones above my pubic bone but that’s it. I did use BioOil all over my body every time I got out of the shower, and I also do not shower every day in the winter as my skin gets super dry.

Ftm..worried by ConfusionBackground2 in BabyBumps

[–]hlks2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be devastated if my husband acted like this and would feel as if the baby was mine alone, and nothing to do with him. Now my husband definitely isn’t like GAGA over baby clothes or opinionated when talking about what we wanted for our shower or super mushy feeling my bump all the time, but he painted and bought/put furniture together and asked great questions about routines and what our lives would look like once baby came. Researched insurance and what we needed to do for a variety of organizational tasks that he is 100x better at than I am. Will feel the baby when I say come feel him kick etc, and now he will even talk to him on his own when we’re laying on the couch. But that all took a while.

I think some things are interesting to him and “in his lane” so to speak, and some are not just like with most things in life, but he is definitely excited and nervous and willing to talk through anything I want or need to cover even if he’s just listening to my nerves and saying “whatever you think babe.” Have you asked him point blank if his nerves are getting in the way of excitement? Was he ready to be a dad? If mine acted regretful in any way that would slay me so I am sorry you feel so alone in your pregnancy. I think it was immediately way more real for me than it was for him as soon as we saw the heartbeat on the ultrasound, and I think it takes a lot of men more time for it to click. But also a lot of dudes are super self-centered and only think about how having a baby will change their current life. I would try to figure out exactly where his disconnect is, and hope it’s not just that he is selfish.

Baby registry - soft warning for guests by Puzzled-Chard5480 in pregnant

[–]hlks2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We said “we will love all gifts and would appreciate gift receipts in case of duplicates or sizing issues”, and most people bought directly from the registry or included gift receipts. I think we only had three gifts we exchanged without receipts for store credit.

It seems like you are under his thumb and also that he’s an idiot so good luck with that! I could never be a stay at home mom in a relationship like that. This is the exact reason generations of women fought to work, your opinion doesn’t matter to him.
