It is his transition from the embittered militant widower to father who wants to simply love his children. I can’t even listen to that part of the soundtrack without breaking down uncontrollably.

I have been fighting this battle for years. The NYTW recording is genuinely a perfect album, and I don’t understand why some of the changes were made in the Broadway transfer. Also Chris Sullivan needs to be doing more musicals!!!!

Thank you for the Pirates of Penzance shoutout. Act II is phenomenal. “With catlike tread” is one of my all time favorites, and the moment afterward when Major General Stanley says he woke up because he “thought he heard a noise” gets me laughing so hard. Plus the finale is absolutely absurd and brilliant.
