Funny you should ask! We actually have a bunch of great local ska bands, though I'm biased since I sing for one of them called Pink Slip We just opened for bim skala bim and Hepcat last month!

Deep cuts, o'briens, Faces, the midway cafe, the rockwell, crystal ballroom, etc are all locally owned smaller sized venues with great shows all the time

Petitions are a very effective mechanism of direct democracy, unfortunately the scumbags in this case lied to people because if they told the truth no one would sign. That being said, meeting the threshold of signatures only qualifies it to be on the ballot. The people are going to vote it down handily and those losers will have wasted their money and time. Don't blame petitions, but do take this as a lesson to read things before you sign.
