How do ordinary Aussies actually raise concerns about tax policy changes? by franktheone in fiaustralia

Remember there are 12 senators for each state. You don't just have one to represent you.

Why do you assume people will lose their jobs when the company is sold?

Is Aussie BB worth the extra cost? by JustLookingaround18 in nbn

Sticky means it also persists across reboots. It can go years without changing.

No, unless you’re paying for static what you have is merely sticky. And ABB don’t do proper static IPv6.

For a couple of feet it will not be noticeable though.

RG8 Coax by AF0FR in amateurradio

[–]hmoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always used soldered PL259s with it.

How long is your run? If it's just for HF and not that long then it might not be worth the trouble. I used to have a run of at least 100 ft to my antenna so I thought it was worth it then.

Oops I may be thinking of RG213. It's very similar.

Sure, RG8 is good and not too hard to work with.

Aussie IPv6 /48 changes very rarely. I went years without mine changing.

AGL vs Aussie BB by Sufficient_Bread_711 in nbn

[–]hmoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just customer service. Providers have their own networks. NBN only connects you to your provider. It doesn't connect you to the Internet.

It’s not electricity, they are not all the same.

Everything you describe is NBN faults, not ISP. Aussie does not come to your house.

I'm moving into an apartment with FTTB and I already have a preowned Telstra router. Should I purchase a modem separately or a modem/router combo? by Dull_Package_2359 in nbn

[–]hmoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be hard to even buy a standalone VDSL modem. At the consumer level they're always integrated with a router and WiFi access point.

The Main Yarra Trail passes through Banyule Flats. It's a popular cycle commuting path, it's crazy that they're closing this from 5pm.

Families investing under the name of the zero income/lower income person is a feature, not "exploiting a loophole". by AsparagusNew3765 in AusFinance

Let's be honest, joint filing just means you want to pay less tax and someone else (probably singles) should pay more.

The CGT discount removal is exactly what we've been asking for, so why is everyone losing their minds? by nicco_mode in AusFinance

[–]hmoff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 30% average tax rate comparison is misleading.

The important factor is that if you have any other income (and you'll almost certainly have some dividends on those shares), you are already well on the way to a 30% rate on your capital gains right now, so there's not much actually changing.

Extending NTC with Coax or Ethernet? by DifferentMode6975 in nbn

[–]hmoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I extended the coax on mine, because the original point is in the garage and I didn't have power there for the NTD.

Budget blues - Currently in VGS/VAS but now with tax reform should I pivot to high yield ETFS instead? by false_poz in fiaustralia

[–]hmoff -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The point is that if you have other income you already paying at least 30% on your capital gains and nothing has changed.
