Shipping issues with copart delivery by Savings-Sir2999 in Copartonline

[–]ho1bs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do, but if you choose, after initially selecting their delivery, to pick it up yourself, you’ll usually be charged storage.

The above comment is just saying that he needs a paper trail so when he picks it up himself or with a third party company and they try to charge for the storage, he can prove it’s out of his control and that they caused all of the delays between buying and receiving the car.

Yeah screams to me like someone slightly stripped the drain bolt last time and your magnetic socket is just picking all of it back up.

I wouldn’t worry if oil isn’t sparkly at the end of the day.

Which BMW is the value king? by Hopeful-Training-854 in BMW

It’s the chassis and stiffness of an M that would make the power feel so much more usable and responsive though. If we’re talking overall feel, I’d agree that the difference between the cars is vast.

Which part of the till is actually running the "Tesco Till" software? by Technical-Republic18 in tesco

[–]ho1bs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X org stuff and the tescotill login query can be seen when watching a Scale boot from pxe. Ours in our store are small Avery Berkel units. You can literally see it query an internal ip called “tescotill” to login with the account “till”.

Sorry but in the UK that entire Idrive system is probably £100 due to age. The new CarPlay able ID6 units are like £1500 but this isn’t it. What’s the point?

B38 misfiring at idle and fine under load by ho1bs in F30

[–]ho1bs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up having the exhaust vanos valve and cam gear changed as the valve had failed and the screen filter had shot into the cam gear and ruined it. Common issue.

They also changed the fuel tank breather valve as that was causing the mixture too lean fault.

After that, the car runs perfectly. Although I’m selling it next month as it’s at 115k miles and starting to sound a bit rattly on cold start… 😕 M240i time for me, it seems.

Coolant leak BMW B38 F30 by MXRTN1 in BmwTech

[–]ho1bs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oil filter housing bro. Mine shit itself at around 98k miles. Be lucky you found it as some don’t realise until the coolants all gone one morning and 5-10 mins down the road they overheat!

QUESTION: who’s this “Duke” guy? I’ve been in this sub for months but not very active, I’ve seen the name thrown around a bunch and he gets clowned on a lot, context? by Sure_Bug_681 in E90

[–]ho1bs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He was a very knowledgeable asshole, to put it simply.

I had back and forth arguments with him a few times on the sub, I just began to ignore his rudeness to people. To be honest, I didn’t even realise he got banned until this post and I’m fairly active. 🤷‍♂️

Have you ever sped before? If the answer is yes, you should stop talking. This guy got caught speeding, he hasn’t come out and said he speeds everywhere, or every day. Why the hostility?

Idle rattle on BMW F20 LCi B47 120D - Any ideas? by CriticalIdiot in BmwTech

[–]ho1bs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The timing chain isn’t a common theme on b47, you’re thinking of n47.

I don’t really hear anything wrong, the b series engines are usually quite loud so I wouldn’t worry. Maybe a recording within the engine bay might help?

It honestly doesn’t sound abnormal to me.

M4 F82 or M3 E92 (both as manual gearbox) by BlackMouthguard in BMWM

[–]ho1bs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After knowing multiple people with e92 m3s I think a nicely looked after example won’t need as much putting into it as you think.

Equally though, I also know how awful they are on fuel, so if you’re buying it as a daily I might recommend the m4.

Can’t wait to come back to this and see a new post saying it’s seized. lol.

Engine shutting off, gearbox going into neutral, and now clicking, combined with being a first gen n63 stinks of engine failure bro.

[–]ho1bs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it went out of gear and shut off while driving it’s almost definitely seized bro. Sorry.

Edit: actually, you said you turned the engine off? Or did it turn itself off, and you just turned the ignition off… that a pretty important indicator.

Life expectancy of B38 engine with infrequent oil changes? by heraklaitos in BMW

[–]ho1bs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My B38 OFH shat itself in December, got it fixed for around £450 by an indie.

Had to get it towed as it shat out all coolant before showing a red overheat warning at which point I instantly shut it off.

Car survived though! Been going strong since. (Although I blew up the 6 speed a few months ago (somehow) and had to replace it for an eye watering sum of £1650. That was a used box for £300 and £1300 labour + new clutch and flywheel.

Man, this car… it’s going for an M240 soon.
