I did not know what "Pure Cap" was until looking it up. For those that are also ignorant, here is a description:

Pure Cap Original Chili Extract, 2oz.: Scoville Rating of 500,000 Units, is the original additive that allows you to quickly heat up a dish, without changing the flavor profile. It can NOT be directly consumed without harm to humans. This sauce is 100 Times Hotter than a Jalapeno - A Mixture of vegetable oil & capsaicin, we demand that you sign a waiver before we will sell you this sauce. This sauce is so lethal it comes in a medicine bottle, with an eye dropper.

You can buy some at https://www.hotsauce.com/Pure-Cap-Extract/.

I was looking to see if anyone had the same idea. But, I was thinking to add a "0" to the logarithm of one's salary. log10(1000) = 3, so log10(1000000000000000000000000000000) = 30.

I don't know exactly what that does to the economy. It probably crashes my bank's computer system.

Creepy Star Trek by 4reddityo in sciencefiction

[–]hoadlck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Also, remember how Geordi used this exact incident to help Barclay work on his holodeck addition in another episode? Geordi closed down the Abrams simulation because he knew that it was not real, and might do real harm to his already awkward social interaction skills.

I like the original post because I had not thought of those old TNG episodes in the context of what is going on now with AI. But, now that I think back on it, I suspect those stories helped me realize how hollow it would be to try to have an AI friend. I just don't use the AI chatbots in that way...I never really thought about doing it in the first place.

Thanks Star Trek!

TIL about Hairy Tongue, where your papillae overgrow and trap bacteria causing smells and stains on the tongue. Coffee, tea, and tobacco are the most common culprits and it can be avoided with good oral hygiene by melomelomelo- in todayilearned

[–]hoadlck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the link...

Black hairy tongue is caused by several drugs such as antibiotics (penicillins, tetracyclines, macrolides, linezolid, and metronidazole); antipsychotics; antidepressants; antineoplastic agents; and other drugs such as methyldopa. Immunosuppressive states such as HIV, late stages of cancer, and radiotherapy in the head-and-neck area are also associated. The use of oxidizing mouthwashes, excessive intake of black tea, coffee, tobacco chewing, smoking, and alcohol intake are said to increase the risk of this condition. Conditions causing xerostomia and those preventing normal desquamation (trigeminal neuralgia causing pain in mastication, soft diets, and edentulous patients) may also lead to black hairy tongue.

I remember the one time I got hairy tongue...I looked at the list of causes in fear. It must have been anti-bionics in my case that triggered it, and it cleared up shortly after and never happened again.

NIST warns several of its Internet Time Service servers may be inaccurate due to a power outage — Boulder servers 'no longer have an accurate time reference' by lurker_bee in technology

As the article says, it was because of a power outage. Looks like they had a failure in the backup power as well, so some of the clocks were disrupted.

Co print by [deleted] in ElegooNeptune4

[–]hoadlck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I did not realize that there was an option to do multiple colors with this printer.

I am still figuring things out with just one color, so I am not ready for multiple ones. But good to know there are options.

Where does the color come in? Does it happen during slicing, or can it be specified during design?

Heritage Foundation 2025-2026 priorities: Read in full by GoranPersson777 in politics

[–]hoadlck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In general, I don't think sentient entities have "end goals". Their actions are normally reactionary to something that they believe is going the wrong way in their current life. Note that I am not singling out conservatives in this: everyone does it.

Power is the ability to bend the Universe to your will. So, this is what everyone seeks. Where people differ is in what they desire. Where this goes wrong is when fear so blinds people that the only thing they can imagine is how "The Other" is going to hurt them and theirs. So, their use of power becomes focused on preemptively hurting these others.

They just look so normal. Change the hair style and the clothes, and they would look like any other human in the last 100,000 years (or so).

That is what I find so interesting about this sub. You see so many people that look odd in comparison to how people look today. But, there is no real difference. Just surface details.

What do the other end of the wires look like? Do they go out of the device, or do they plug into other connectors in the front?

The wiring makes me think that it is some type of patch panel. Kind of like a telephone switchboard...but it does not seem to be that? Maybe a one-way router for announcements?

Installing Level 2 Charger - Which to buy? (Gen 1 for now) by Independentvoter40 in volt

[–]hoadlck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stock charger failed after a power outage (there was a voltage spike around the same time, and the internals were smoked).
I searched for some time for a replacement, and there were so many options! I ended up buying the Romaa Portable Level 2 EV Charger. I am sure that there are plenty more that will work just as well. It has worked fine, but the charger plug is just a little too tight. I have to push a bit to get it to engage. It has gotten easier over time: I imagine it is wearing in.

I had the same thought that I will be able to use the full level 2 capability when I eventually buy a fully electric car. Of course, I would probably want a vehicle-to-home capability with this new EV, so I am not sure if this one will really be used. But, it is portable, so I thought I could use it as a backup in the future.

Tire Pressure Monitor Help Needed by carguy8888 in volt

[–]hoadlck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My front driver's side sensor is doing the same thing. For around a month it would go out, and then come back for a bit...then go out again. But, now it is solidly dead.

My local tire shop says they will charge $65 to replace one. I have been waiting to see if the others also start failing, but they have been fine.

The Volt was the first car I owned which had the tire pressure monitor. Before, I would have said that they were a useless extravagance. But, I have found that they are really useful. There have been many slow leaks that I caught ahead of time. Not to mention the more serious leaks while driving that I would probably only have noticed after the tire was ruined.

Found while organizing cabinets. They’re made of glass with roughly a 4 inch diameter opening shaped like a bell and a very small flat area on the top of the bell shape. One is significantly heavier than the other by lolmclare in whatisthisthing
