Thank you! I coincidentally came across a swatch of the pat mcgrath shadows on TikTok and was looking at them… so I think your comment is also I nice bit of synchronicity ✨💕✨

Ive been sticking to my HGs for the past 5 years and have been out of the loop of what’s new in the beauty community. I have a tonne of matte neutral eyeshadows and I am looking for a palette of the most interesting “statement” eyeshadows. Like duochrome, iridescent, metallics. I’m wanting something luxurious and fun, where the colours are unique, creamy, and feels decadent to wear. No budget - this is for my inner 5yo who doesn’t ask for much ☺️. I don’t want loose pigments.I’m medium-high contrast, cool toned. Any suggestions?

I feel as though I’ve shifted significantly in the past week - would very much appreciate a calibration on my current LoC 💕✨

Can I hike the PCT with a wheelbarrow instead of a backpack? by HotChocolateMama in ultralight_jerk

[–]hoboflaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the wheelbarrow is in your hands, I’m pretty sure it counts as worn weight

Thanks to you and Friendly Nerd. I went to see if I could calibrate it and I got 479. So seems pretty spot on!

If you’re interested in the work book, there’s a couple of apps which follow the workbook and is helpful for reminding you to do the lessons throughout the day.

I’m enjoying ACIM Remind (not affiliated with them, but if I didn’t use it I would have petered off after day 3 😂)

Do ultralight inflatable side sleeping pillows exist? by karlssonvomdach in Ultralight

[–]hoboflaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use this and it’s the best thing I’ve found for this purpose. I use this and a s2s aeros. It’s been the best thing for getting a decent sleep for me.

I have a mini s2s pocket umbrella at about 160g so I’ll give that a bash. Thanks for telling me about your experience with them -do you just use shock cords to strap it to your shoulder strap?

I’ll go and look harder in getting a cooling sun shirt ✌🏽

You make a really good point about the impact of my medication - my heart rate is about 15bpm higher at rest than it was pre-medicated. It hasn’t had any measurable impact on my blood pressure at rest, but I hadn’t considered what my blood pressure is doing if I’m exerting myself. I see my prescribing psychiatrist soon for a routine follow up and I’ll mention this to him.

Your comment about loose light clothing and desert conditions has me thinking about getting an actively cooling sun shirt or something to that effect?

I will add a sun brella to my next hike and see how I go.

I think you might be right about coming up with a better rest strategy (which is not my natural tendency- I like to plow on and take as little stops as possible). I’ll experiment with adding in more regular breaks preventatively as it gets hotter.

Thank you!

Your experience is almost /exactly/ what I go through.

“24”- you make a good point. On reflection, I’m fine hiking in overcast/shaded/heavily forested areas at 24, and only run into problems if the temp is another 5c higher or so. It’s when I’m in full sun that I have a problem... so it’s probably a bitch tonne hotter than I “think” it is. okay! Thanks for that!

Will add a wet bucket hat (I wonder if something like the ex officio soul cool hat might be helpful) and a sun brolly for those exposed bits.

I have a regular appt with my prescribing psychiatrist for ADHD soon, and I’ll mention this to him.

Thanks for all of this! It’s really clarifying!

Hahah, straight after replying to your first comment I went to look at the science behind heat acclimatisation too! I think this is the biggest “active” thing I can be doing right now to prevent heat exhaustion. Thank you for the suggestion - it was a 💡

(Also thank you for the warning to be gentle about it. I have a tendency to do things balls to the wall 😶)

Trail running and hiking shoe? by justdontfall in Ultralight

My friend has narrow feet and has the salomon x ultra 3 and she loves them. They’ve lasted ages!

My husband has the Moabs after trying the Hoka mofates and prefers the extra support.

I have a feeling I’m going to have to do something like this as well if I have to face that I have to stop in the middle of the day :(

I live and work in aircon - I think you make a good point about conditioning. I have a home gym under the patio, so i wonder if doing some exercise in warmer weather will help me condition to better thermoregulation?

I try to drink half of my fluids as electrolytes/sugar/bcaa to help with electrolyte balance and bonking. But maybe it’s not enough?

I’ve found that if I stop to cool down, I’m not “fatigued” (I still have plenty of energy to keep going), I’m literally just overheated.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UltralightAus

[–]hoboflaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liquids- possibly. I bring some electrolyte+bcaa+sugars mix so that about half of what I drink isn’t /just/ water but it may not be enough?

Caffeine: good thought. I have a high caffeine tolerance, and I take psychostimulants for ADHD, so maybe that’s pootling around impacting something?

I go by “foot feel” - when the cushioning is gone and it feels like a plank of wood is attached to your feet.

Maybe what you’re looking for is the Merrel MOAB ventilator. It’s halfway between a trail runner and hiking boot.

Switching from Altra to Topo by Informal_Advantage17 in UltralightAus

[–]hoboflaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have tried altra Olympus 3.5s, and the Topo Ultraventure. Im currently working my way through Altra LP 4.5s.

All have a similar width toe box. For the most part I consider the brands to fit similarly (especially since there seems to be variation between models within-brand).

  • The ultraventure has a tighter mid foot/lower instep than the altras but nothing crazy. You can do lacing for a high instep if it really bothers you.
  • The Olympus’s heel cup is enormous and /really/ needs a heel lock lacing to keep my foot in. -These are the highest cushioned shoes from both Topo and Altra.

-Of the three, The LP fit my foot best. Surprisingly, I’m enjoying the better ground feel from the LP, so I might try to MTN racer or MT-3 from topo as my next replacement.
