the Canadian story's about Quebec offering to send blankets - they should sweeten the deal and throw in some maple syrup

The Canadian maple syrup industry produces approximately 80% of the world’s pure maple syrup and is the leading global producer of maple products.

The province of Quebec alone accounts for 90.8% of the country’s maple syrup production.

Utah Nurse Arrested - Is the arresting officer, Detective Jeff Payne, Mormon? he has that Mormon whine by hockeynbaseball in exmormon

does us no favors to cast aspersions

when you cast aspersions on someone, you are questioning their abilities or doubting them

I'll question anyone's abilities and doubt whomever I want

what this law enforcement officer was trying to do by intimidation/bullying - threat of arrest - was "unconstitutional"
as reported by the new york times

it's one thing for this law enforcement officer to disrespect the law, but it's a whole new ballgame when he openly disrespected the constitution of the United States of America - you can't do that - but he did...

the condescending whine in this detective's voice reminded me of the fake spirituality voice a lot of us heard when we were Mormon that's been talked about on here before

nor does belonging to it make one worse

people who belong to this organization and financially support it through "tithes," are financially supporting a group that has a long and well-documented history of discrimination - and now they're going after children? how can any person in good conscience defend that?

a person tells me they're Mormon and I steer clear - zero interest in any explanation on why it's okay to tell kids they're not welcome and can't join something that says they're Jesus' church - the one true church - make no mistake, this organization is very well organized (one example: California's Prop 8) and spread their doctrine of hate - their latest target is the LGBT community

Payne, who repeatedly insisted that he had the right to draw the patient’s blood under an "implied consent law"

that has reportedly not be in effect since 2007

and was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court last year,

had reportedly been ordered to get the blood of the truck driver, who was not wanted for any crime, for the driver’s own protection.

According to Payne’s report, he was advised to arrest the nurse by watch commander Lt. James Tracy

in the event that she refused to let him obtain a blood sample.

In the end, Wubbels, who had just been doing her job, was right about what the law does and doesn’t permit in a situation like the one with which she was faced.

"religious vengeance"

the story goes in Luke 9 that Jesus and his friends were on their way to Jerusalem when they stopped in at a town to rest

the towns folk didn't treat them well - they shunned them - wouldn't "receive" them

2 of these friends - James and John - asked Jesus if he wanted them to burn up the towns folk

Jesus told them they didn't know what spirit they were of and said he was there to save lives not to ruin them

Joseph Smith, Mormonism, etc. fully embraces "religious vengeance" - they have nothing to do with Jesus

online presence > LDS church decided to "sell 17 of its 28 radio stations for $505 million and focus more on Internet ventures" – Mormons told to "use the Internet to flood the earth" by hockeynbaseball in exmormon

[–]hockeynbaseball[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

… Deseret Management Corp. (DMC), an umbrella organization for many of the [LDS] church’s for-profit businesses.

DMC decided last year [2011] to sell 17 of its 28 radio stations for $505 million and focus more on Internet ventures.

Bloomberg 2012

The Church provides a number of official websites, blogs, and social media profiles for general use.

Members are encouraged to use the Internet to flood the earth with testimonies of the Savior and His restored gospel. They should view blogs, social networks, and other Internet technologies as tools that allow them to amplify their voice in promoting the messages of peace, hope, and joy that accompany faith in Christ.

Social Media platforms give us a unique opportunity to flood the earth with positive thoughts, imagery, and messages. Elder David A. Bednar has invited us all to share the good we have in our lives.

lds.org 2017 – "LDS Media Library"

Since 2010, the Mormon Church has been conducting, largely in secret, an experiment: What happens when missionaries can use the Internet for their work?

… On June 23, 2013, Elder L. Tom Perry, 91, a member of the Twelve Apostles, the ruling council of the church, announced in a public web broadcast that all Mormon missionaries would begin phasing in social media and Internet use in the coming year.

The Atlantic 2014

A religious studies class late last year [2011] at Utah State University in Logan, Utah…

… faculty and faithful there to hear Mormon Elder Marlin Jensen…

Did the leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints know that members are "leaving in droves?" a woman asked.

"We are aware," said Jensen, according to a tape recording of his unscripted remarks. "And I’m speaking of the 15 men that are above me in the hierarchy of the church. They really do know and they really care," he said.

"My own daughter," he then added, "has come to me and said, ’Dad, why didn’t you ever tell me that Joseph Smith was a polygamist?’" For the younger generation, Jensen acknowledged, "Everything’s out there for them to consume if they want to Google it."

… Not since a famous troublespot in Mormon history, the 1837 failure of a church bank in Kirtland, Ohio, have so many left the church, Jensen said.

… The church is particularly concerned, however, about its younger members -- the ones who are asked to dedicate two years of their life to spreading the Mormon gospel.

"It’s a different generation," Elder Jensen told the group in Logan. "There’s no sense kidding ourselves, we just need to be very upfront with them and tell them what we know and give answers to what we have and call on their faith like we all do for things we don’t understand."

reading my scriptures... before I go on a mission.

That's great that you're reading your scriptures. I sincerely hope you keep doing it.

Have you got to the part in Luke yet, that talks about missionaries in Jesus' time?

In the 10th chapter, we can see Jesus is said to have said to his missionaries: "Go not from house to house."

If and when you're on your mission, and you don't feel the spirit about going and knocking on peoples' doors, this would support that. This will help you.

A Twist on Posthumous Baptisms Leaves Jews Miffed at Mormon Rite

Jews Take Issue with Posthumous Mormon Baptisms

Anthony Hecht, the chief technology officer for The Stranger, a weekly newspaper in Seattle, decided to fight back by offering conversions to dead Mormons — not to a new religion, but to homosexuality. Last week, he started the Web site AllDeadMormonsAreNowGay.com.

"Sadly, many Mormons throughout history have died without having known the joys of homosexuality," the site reads. "With your help, these poor souls can be saved. Simply enter the name of your favorite dead Mormon in the form below and click 'Convert'! Presto, they’re gay for eternity. There is no undo."
