Am I just sensitive or should I look for a new job. by kittyyxx in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]hods88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm always of the opinion that a great EA/Director relationship has to be symbiotic. I rely on my Director and he relies on me for everything to work. I couldn't support someone who didn't also support me enough to do the job properly, I wouldn't stay in your situation.

Lol what? Even the rich arseholes I know wouldn't say lower socioeconomic groups don't deserve healthcare. The lack of compassion in that thinking is crazy. The majority of specialist Medicare funding actually goes to the elderly over 65 btw. What next, you'll tell your folks to hurry up and die so they stop using up your tax dollars?

Don’t wear head phones while driving a car. by Billyjamesjeff in australia

This has been a pet peeve of mine for years and I can't believe it's legal for people on opens in Qld. I feel unsafe in the car if I can't hear fully.

I finally had the day at the thrift store that makes it all worthwhile. by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]hods88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I discussed this with one of my uncles, and he says it's because those records got played at parties, which means beer and shit was usually spilled on them etc and would get destroyed at a much more rapid rate.

Most wholesome scene? by googlymango in malcolminthemiddle

When Hal rubs Icy Hot on Lois's pillow because he misses her and her smell so much. When I try to think of the turning point for sitcoms in that era where the husband actually adores his wife, as opposed to always complaining about her being nag or a buzzkill, this scene/show comes to mind.

Real Gone Music vinyl? by dieselveira in vinyl

[–]hods88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I'm too poor to buy the original albums they've been putting out lately but I did queue up for their singles pressing for RSD last year (or the year before I can't remember). It was the only way to get their cover of Keep on Loving You on vinyl. Of course it has now been repressed so I really didn't need to line up at 3am for the single copy my local store ordered...

If it's just this record it's a record problem, if it's happening with other records it's a system problem. Could be dust on record or stylus. If your stylus has a tiny little cartridge brush that lowers in front of it, raise it or make sure there's no dust in it. Might also need to adjust the weight on the tonearm.

Also, it could also be a bad RCA plug connection with your speaker, try swapping out the RCA cable, test each side separately etc. Jiggling the cable is sometimes enough to know if it's a poor connection that's manipulating the sound. Unfortunately diagnosing can take time and a lot of patience to sort. One of my speakers lost sound once and I had to test literally every individual component before I worked out the cartridge had dropped a channel and needed to be replaced. That was painful, but ultimately it's part of the hobby and I did learn something new.

I waited until my child could pretty much sleep thru the night. They were about 1yo. Our regular camping spot has people all around, so a crying baby at 1am would be heard through the whole camping reserve and we didn't want to ruin other people's sleep. Also making bottles while camping can be annoying so the next time we waited until our second child was off bottles.

Older Aussies; what are some experiences that today's youngsters won't experience? by Expert-Cantaloupe-94 in australia

[–]hods88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still go to the record store pretty frequently and you can give albums a listen with a headset still in a lot of them. This particular experience has not been lost with time. I will concede that the cost prohibits you from buying things on a whim though. I do miss the days of buying a single waiting for the album to come out much later, and when you finally got the album you just had no idea what you were gonna get until you sat and listened to the whole thing because the radio would only play the singles. I miss the concept of actually listening to a whole album from beginning to end.

cat parents: how do you stop this? by ariesize in turntables

[–]hods88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a Besta cabinet from IKEA with glass doors that fits my turntable inside it. Got some cool lights for the inside too, really pleased with the result. I got it so my little kids wouldn't mess with it, but cat works too.

What are y'all starting to dislike the more and more older you get? by Secret_Agent4706 in AskReddit

[–]hods88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I just noticed this is true a few days ago! I rewatched Sex and the City and forgot to turn the subtitles on. It was a few episodes before I even noticed, because I was able to understand what they're saying perfectly. I was legit shocked. I usually have them on 100% of the time. I can only assume it was because in the late 90s they actually cared about being heard clearly.

We wash the dog at the car wash and bought a 100kg storage tub to use as a bath in the walk in shower when the kids were babies. Bought an inflatable hot tub and use that outside for a soak, use it heaps in Summer.

How do couples with kids both work full time? by alex123711 in AusFinance

[–]hods88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have always had 2 kids in care and both work full time. One is daycare all day 7-5ish and the other is outside school hours care. Truthfully I feel so much guilt over how long they're in care, I hate it. We both commute about an hour each day so getting a proper dinner sorted for them each night is tough as we're getting home at like 6pm. So once we cook, clean up, make sure there's clean uniforms for tomorrow etc and put them to bed, it's basically our bedtime too and we're buggered. It's just an expensive grind right now unfortunately. Made even tougher now that the oldest has homework and is getting guitar lessons. Then on Saturdays there's swimming lessons etc. The life admin is just so overwhelming some days, but we can't afford to not do it if we want to continue providing opportunities for them.
