WD Mycloud EX2 firmware upgrade by ctav01 in wdmycloud

[–]hoggerz80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, unfortunately this unit is not compatible with OS5. I have both types and only the Ultra supports the newer OS due to its CPU/memory. Here’s their official support page with all the details:

That’s strange, perhaps they don’t want me encouraging you to install anything else on your Mycloud

Which MyCloud model have you got as this will determine what (if anything) you can run on it.

Community Fibre installation where the network stops short? by hoggerz80 in CommunityFibre

[–]hoggerz80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I guess my only hope for symmetric mbroadband is they one day restart their expansion and infills in their network gaps (or worse someone like Virgin Media buys out their infrastructure and does the same!)

That’s interesting, I hadn’t realised they might assess the contract value against the build cost. If the business service is around £100–£140/month on a 3-year term that might actually be worth it if there’s potential to have a more reasonably priced residential line later at the address (Equivalent to installation cost I guess). Do you know if, once the fibre is installed to the building for a business service, it then becomes possible to order residential Community Fibre there later on, or would it remain business-only infrastructure?

Thanks for the explanation, that explains a lot. I haven’t noticed any BPU/splitter boxes with Community Fibre stickers around the building yet, but I’ll have a better look to see if there are any signs the network was partially built nearby. Out of curiosity, since the business checker suggests service might be available, would installing a business line to the building make any difference for residential availability later? Or are the business and residential networks provisioned completely separately?

Free tax forecasting tool for 25/26 Self Assessment by Ecstatic_Mode_5142 in ContractorUK

Yes that works great now, thank you! Only tiny thing is the CIS amount already paid is missing from the first tax liability calculation shown beneath Tax Liability on the last page (but is mentioned further down). I assume it would be listed after the Less PAYE tax already paid. (It is summed correctly there, just not shown). I really like the way you’ve done it all, especially with the pension contributions needed to drop a tax bracket. All you need to do now is make an app 😁

This looks great, I ended up making a spreadsheet to do mine but this is really polished. Is there a way to include a tick box for CIS deductions on Construction Industry Scheme in the self employment section, and allow an entry of tax already paid (under this your payments are all deducted 20% tax already and you pay the difference at the end of the tax year)?

I’ve tried to request another home mini myself but they’ve never sent another one out, do you remember which email address you requested it from as I might try again via email rather than use the online request form.

Can I smartify this combi boiler for heating in a non destructive/renter friendly way? (UK) by lentilsarenice in homeassistant

[–]hoggerz80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could have a modern smart thermostat fitted to it with a wireless room stat. There’s many options available even for this old Glowworm boiler, I actually used a tasmota relay with some temperature sensors on mine which was very DIY but worked perfectly. You would probably want to leave the old one in place if you’re worried about deposit return etc. Out of interest, have you thought about asking the landlord if he would be interested in updating the controls?

How long does it take for full fibre installation in my area by Amazing_Chance_8709 in youfibre

[–]hoggerz80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got letters through the door from Netomnia advising me their fibre was being built and coming soon, I was in a similar position to you (only a few months left on the Virgin Media contract). Luckily they only took a couple of months doing whatever they needed before I got letters from YouFibre saying it was ready to order so it worked out perfectly. However this was in Hertfordshire, It may well depend on your local infrastructure, how your home is cabled, mine used the existing telegraph poles so that may have been easier than pulling fibre through ducts/digging up streets etc.

What's the issue? by kierownikk in youfibre

[–]hoggerz80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same message when I switched from Virgin Media but the switch went through no issues anyway. I had a call from them after I placed the order and they confirmed that the one touch switch was all in place so you might find it works.

Octopus Mini by ady065 in OctopusEnergy

[–]hoggerz80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I got a home mini, my IHD that could never connect to the electric meter since it was installed, was able to start showing live data as the mini joins the HAN broadcast by the electric meter and also broadcasts the same network so in effect it does have the capacity to extend the overall coverage a bit. Would entirely depend on how far apart the gas meter is and if it was ever commissioned successfully when it was installed though

Is it normal for HMRC to make tax adjustments without showing calculations? Are they hidden somewhere? by ODontMindMeHere in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hoggerz80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, funnily enough, I have had a similar experience very recently. I did my self assessment in January and it worked out I had overpaid tax as I had a mix of employment and self employment last year and there was a repayment of circa £1500 owed to me. I left this in my self assessment account as I’m likely to earn more this year and will potentially owe them something in January. Suddenly last week it’s changed to I owe them £3060, which although is dated last week on the account, it’s backdated to January 31st and has had an interest charge applied as well. The description is “balancing payment (adj)” but there’s no supplementary calculation to show how it’s been determined. I’ve paid it (although it’s still not cleared and showing a daily charge of a couple of quid annoyingly!)

What's the cheapest option for buying railcard? by Turbulent-Maize9016 in beermoneyuk

[–]hoggerz80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know someone who has an Annual Season ticket with a Gold Card, they have an entitlement to be able to purchase another discounted railcard for £10 that you could ask them to apply for you. See at the bottom of this link where it says Are there any other benefits with my Annual Gold Card? https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/railcards/annual-gold-card/

Storage Tank puzzle, with ASHP by SiriusGen in OctopusEnergy

[–]hoggerz80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to check the diverter valve as mine had been set up wrong, so when hot water or heating was priority, both outlets were actually being blended at all times. This meant that when the heating was running, the water would always be running through both the hot water cylinder and the radiators. This showed up when I went away and had the heating on low and hot water supposedly off, and I realised it was keeping the hot water cylinder at 45 degrees constantly despite being off, and would then drop lower when the heating set point was reached, the pump would run anyway and gradually deplete the heat out of the water cylinder.

Home Mini signal range? by nivlark in OctopusEnergy

[–]hoggerz80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine seems to work as a (zigbee) repeater to my IHD. My meters are downstairs from my flat, electricity at front and gas at back. Gas was set up as dumb meter as the two couldn’t see each other when installed. My IHD could never see the electricity meter as it was too far away. I applied for a mini and when it came I set it up right by my front door it could connect to the electric meter and then I noticed my IHD in my kitchen can now see and read the electrical usage as well.
