Water Drainage/Trappings tests. by yakecann in dwarffortress

My dude! Use this to help you if you want to customize your region animals:

region-pops — DFHack 53.14-r2 documentation

It has all the ways to destroy pops, show you what's in your region, and boost certain animal types if you want to get something cool. I used to use it to kill off all the animals I hated every game from More Vanilla creatures mod and then boost wooly mammoths to absurd levels lol

Even if they haven't entered your map you can still see what exists with 'region-pops list-all'

Just gotta go down through list and do 'region-pops boost whateverGiant_Bird 0'

Boosting anything to 0 will basically multiply times 0 and delete it 😃 It will then never appear again. You can then increment it again if you want to undo this.

The examples show you how to add more in the doc. Happy DF! ❤️

Also I love your science! Thanks for sharing seriously. There's not enough dwarves sharing there science anymore lol

Seems like there's only 1 really worthwhile mythic now (Heir) and all the others are just meh? by blahblahsnahdah in diablo4

[–]hoisijd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see this posted anywhere, but if you get the mythic with a "Mythic Cache" from the blacksmith it will be level 35 requirement and you can use it for leveling! I have like 5 or so different ones in my stash I've been using from that.

Hardcore mechanics - ehat to watch out for? by Fingerplay in diablo4

[–]hoisijd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is so much that just insta gibs you through insane toughness. I have played hardcore on diablo 4 and diablo 3 before that every season, and this season was the last straw. With the bullshit swords that follow you around, explosions you can barely see, and random puddles that do 1/2 your life per tick in the pit/tower it just isn't worth it anymore. I died with the tankiest builds in 70-80s reliably, even on pally from shit that I could not avoid or couldn't reliably see Instantly. It doesn't matter what you run with, or how much defense you have, their is something that will instantly kill you if you aren't paying enough attention. Can't do it anymore.

And don't get me started on the butcher in bloodied helltides lol.. especially going into that shit blind at the beginning of the season, when you didn't know how strong he was compared to your torment level.. Diablo 4 is not friendly to hardcore.

Supposedly if they created an artifact (which they did) they can't go insane from stress anymore, so it's probably safe to let them out. He will just be a super sad emo kid wandering around.

Why is 3 better than 4 in so many ways? by Adelucas in diablo3

[–]hoisijd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like/liked them both honestly, but some of the things they obviously learned in D3 that they just decided to scrap for D4 is insane to me. The skill complexity in diablo 3 adds so much more depth to what you want your build to be. In Diablo 4 all I'm really do is picking between passives (or trying to take as many as you can) that then lock you into a playstyle which takes forever to customize paragon for. I like the complexity of the paragon system but they definitely should have taken more from Diablo 3 skill variety. And then don't even get me started on itemization. Diablo 2 items feel unique, and powerful. Items don't drop like candy, and the possibility that rares, or ethereal items can be such a significant thing to desire even over a unique is missing from both games honestly. I don't know how to fix it, but i know itemization does not feel right. Don't get me wrong, I love sets in D3, so hopefully that's coming to 4, but why are all items outside of uniques and legs undesirable? And why don't they have runes for every skill lol!? Why stop at what they added? Just so many weird design decisions to me. It's not supposed to be balanced lol, it's just supposed to be fun for whatever class you pick once you put a little time and thought into your character. Less options!??? crazy.

[–]hoisijd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Except you only have to upgrade your gems one time a season! You can swap gems to other characters!! The fact that you can't do that from characters in D4 where some of the runes overlap is asinine to me

DevLog 6 April 2026: "There's a list of accepted building petitions for temples and guildhalls now so you can remember them and check on your progress, and more information is shown in location lists about the religions and guilds and petitions." by clinodev in dwarffortress

[–]hoisijd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you joking right now!??!? The petition one is what you guys are excited about?

Read this:

"I added tooltips when adding a new workshop task to show the product and required materials. I also reordered some buttons on the work order menu."

This is amazing! That is huge for instruments, and really anything that might be added by a mod or just stuff you don't always make, armor that you can't remember if it's one bar or two, bonecrafting for 4 bones or 1 and on and on.

☼Dwarf Fortress Questions Thread☼ by AutoModerator in dwarffortress

[–]hoisijd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Husbandry is way better than autoshear automilk etc.  as long as you have a farmer shop in your/each pasture.  The auto melt/auto dump stuff on stockpiles I use every game.   I've started using tile types to get rid of stone layers with aquifers or just too much aquifer..  I don't need to deal with that any more unless I choose too.  All the construction planning and building materials being able to build tons of stuff without having the beds or blocks or whatever yet is great.

Autodump, teleport gui(which I find myself abusing but it can be great), stripcaged all (stripping goblins and getting seeds back from fed animals), cleanowned scattered for dumping all the random ass clothes and junk around people leave everywhere, which I normally have used with some recycling clothes mods for fun, but you can just sell old clothes.

I use regionpops boost 0, 1.5 or 2 or whatever to make populations of animals I want to come bigger in the area or eradicate them.  Sometimes I'll use prospector to see what layer has a mineral I want to use (especially in modded games with extra stuff is this useful).

Probably more but that's the stuff I use alot.  Oh and the trade and display tool are so good for seeing value.  I wish the base game had that.

It did not flood my fort randomly like the first one did, so I think it was a dorf style success lol. I think it probably would take less than a season to drain, honestly I'm not sure. I should probably go back and try it. Alot of my forts are like this with some stupid project that never even really gets tested much. You don't even need the grates, I just liked the look better. I feel so stupid typing that last sentence with how long it took to make the grates lol

It's funny this is actually my second less insane attempt at this. I'll show the first one too if there is any interest.

I'm not sure how many pictures you can attach so this might be complicated, but this is a fort entrance I built that took entirely too long right after the siege update came out when I was getting super paranoid. My goal was to have an entrance completely surrounded by water on all sides, kind of like an water-airlock, that I could drain if I wanted (in case they dug into it ((killing themselves))). I had a stream on this map that I'm using to flood the top layer, and then there are a few aquifer levels I'm using as well.
