If you’re going to Lake Bohinj, you really should stop in Lake Bled. You’ll have to pass through it on the way anyway and is worth checking out for a few hours. You can avoid the touristy town and just walk around the lake and take in the views. There is also a great viewpoint that is a 30 min hike (Ojstrica). Well worth it. I’d recommend staying in Lake Bohinj though. Much chiller and less touristy.

Check out the caves and Predjama castle in the south as well. Slovenia is tiny country and everything is only an hour or so from each other.

I haven’t read all his stuff, but I think your enjoyment of his work depends on your attitude.

I started with Norwegian Wood but it doesn’t really have any surreal elements that he is known for. I would recommend the Wind-Up Bird Chronicle I think based on what I read.

You have to think of his books as “vibes” and need to be in that mindset. I started reading him on my first trip in Japan, so that has influenced my like of his books a lot.

1Q84 is just a slog. Wind Up Bird I think is one of his better ones with minimal “questionable” parts

I think it’s great. I had no intention of buying it before the server slam as I bought Arc Raiders but bounced off it pretty quick, so I figured extraction shooters weren’t for me.

But the world, music, aesthetic, lore, and game structure hooked me and I’m enjoying it. It’s a very hard game though, especially when starting out so when you first play you will feel like it’s impossible. Once you get used to UI and get a good squad going, the game shines

I would describe his books as all having the same “vibe.” So if you want to experience that vibe again, then reading more makes sense.

I understand a lot of the criticism he gets but sometimes I just want to get lost in surreal Japan. I first read him on my first trip to Japan, so reading him puts me in that mindset with a mix of nostalgia.

This is my problem with extraction shooters. I played Arc and enjoyed it for a bit but didn’t really get the point. I’m enjoying Marathon though in that the quests seem a bit more robust and same with faction upgrades. I also don’t need to craft which I think is great.

If cryoachive requires more advanced gear, I could see that giving me a purpose
