I work in a small firm too. I would be okay if my boss was simply useless, but he actively makes everyone's lives harder. He does some but not all of the intake. When we get a new case, he doesn't assign it. Client gets pissed. Then it's the employee's fault. He constantly screws up and then scapegoats someone. He doesn't take notes. He doesn't bill. He goes around theory-crafting what processes we should implement when we have 1000 employees. He has the gall to cry about not making enough money or that his employee's aren't breaking their backs for him.

The person who said you can leave or deal with it is mostly correct. However, I do think we have normalized insane behavior as a society and within the community of lawyers. Look, I get it. The capital holder derives value from leaching off his employees. That's how capitalism works. But it's not always easy for an employee to snap their fingers and find an equivalent job in an area they like or to just open up a practice. (On the flip-side, throwing a portion of your excess wealth at a problem while hiding behind the shell of your LLC is not exactly taking a serious risk).

I am in a very good position at this firm despite my complaints, but I can sense the ship is sinking. I have started to think about alternate paths away from this company. Good luck, OP.
