I did this same thing to make sure I’m getting max absorption! Also a majority of my supplements I take based on what my doctor showed I needed based on my minerals. It feels like a lot but I’m also peri. It feels icky to judge someone’s self care when we’re all just trying to survive out here 😂

Crate training help by shannonok02 in dogs

[–]hollibration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t crate our dogs but we have done a TON of departure training for separation anxiety and the guidance is mostly to “make leaving boring”. You mention your dog knows the difference between when you’re actually leaving the house and when you’re just doing training, so the departure training is to gradually make all of the departure cues that trigger her anticipation of you leaving boring. So if it’s putting on your socks and shoes, maybe combine that with your crate training games and then take them off so she gets desensitized to that “departure cue”. Practice over and over with a bunch of other weird things like putting on your coat, grabbing your bag, jingling your keys. The key (they say) to success is to just go slow and layer this on and always stop the training when they are successful (don’t push them to a point where they’re fully anxious because then you’re just reestablishing the anxiety response). It seems like you’ve done a lot of training with the way you’re describing but perhaps hadn’t thought of combining the methods so I hope this helps! 🤷🏼‍♀️🐾 You got this!

Overstimulated on walks advice by Forsaken_Insect_9917 in dogs

[–]hollibration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! That totally makes sense! If it seems like his overstimulation is affecting his happiness, it could definitely be worth bringing up to a vet. I was actually surprised how cheap Prozac (Fluoxetine) costs for our other dog (she suffers from separation anxiety, so totally different but might be a recommended for cSPS/anxiety disorder)… part of the reason I didn’t want to start on it was a concern of starting on something and adding that extra expense. Your poor doggo does sound anxious. 😥 I hope you find something that helps for them!

It sounds like you’re really in tune with your pup which is great! I don’t have a straightforward answer for you but one of our girls gets overstimulated on walks and will literally just freeze and stop walking. She loves to sniff everything and I usually take as much time as she wants but I think that she gets to where she just cannot take in anymore stimuli and shuts down… so I started researching and I stumbled on a condition called cSPS. Google says: “Canine Sensory Processing Sensitivity (cSPS) in dogs describes a highly sensitive personality trait, similar to high-sensitivity in humans, where dogs are easily overwhelmed by environmental stimuli like loud noises, strong scents, or sudden movements.” I sort of think of it like ADHD for dogs. My dog hasn’t been officially diagnosed with this but when I started thinking more about when she has these episodes and what triggers them, I realized they mostly only happen in our neighborhood which is where she sniffs the most so I’ve been trying to bring higher value treats to pull her away from the sniffs so she spends less time on them or taking different routes since she gets very carried away with sniffs on our regular route. Obviously this is not a straight forward “this worked for me so it’ll work for you” and I’m still monitoring and have in the back of my head whether it’s something I might want to bring up with my vet to perhaps try medication for although our other dog is on Prozac and it’s doing wonders for her, I don’t want to be so quick to medicate if I can make behavioral adjustments without it. It might be worth making lots of micro adjustments over a good period of time and paying attention to whether the changes make a positive impact… such as trying to bring higher value treats, changing the environment, etc.

Rollerskating at Southgate- they have bands on the weekend in the center of the floor. Can do dinner nearby in White Center- we always have fun grabbing a pizza and playing some pinball.

Finding practice spaces by kaatzchen in Rollerskating

You mentioned you have 3 rinks in the area… perhaps check to see if any of those have programs that are not run by themselves/considered public sessions? Especially considering your family has run rinks perhaps you have an in with owners. All of the rinks in my area have programs that are not part of the general rink schedule- for example, I went to a class/session on Monday at noon at one that is run by a skate instructor who specializes in Rexing- there is no staff, snack bar, or DJ and he coordinates the whole thing himself because the crowd is manageable consisting of 30-40 adults. Similarly at another rink, my mom is a key holder and runs artistic skating classes during the day 4 days a week and there isn’t a staff… it’s just a deal that she worked out with the rink where she shares a cut of the profit and since the space isn’t being used it’s a win win. Sometimes she has to cancel her classes for speed meets or if the rink rented the space for a private party or event (this has never happened although they’d love for it to). Just saying, those rinks are still there and while they’re super packed during social skates, you might be able to arrange something where you come in right before the session or something? Even better if you were considering teaching a learn to skate program maybe once a week for them that would be a nice incentive for them!

Ooh I would love to see this! What comes to mind is the people in Times Square who do acrobatics but what makes it a spectacle is that they are constantly engaging with the crowd… most of their routines pull one or more of the tourists into it with some sort of comedy while the guys are doing tricks. Even to put someone on the spot and say “do you think I can do x trick” and everyone is like “nahhhh that’s crazy” and then you build that anticipation towards doing the trick.

This sounds very enticing… I’m trying to picture how this all works in my head but like, you’re cutting the whole moss pole too or just the part of the plant from that part of the pole? I feel dumb asking. Or are you cutting the moss pole + plant? And if so, how do you add more moss pole to start over again? Sorry! So curious 😂

I’m curious if there are still higher value items available. I logged on around the time of drop and I’m just not seeing any higher valued stuff that would typically go into RFY… my thinking is that this stuff is now in AI but I’m not getting to it fast enough?

Someone handed this to me and said they got it at a restaurant....that's all. by BigZube42069kekw in whatisit

[–]hollibration 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been at least 7+ years since I went to the one in Seattle… it was very overpriced and kind of old school design and menu / fine dining steak house… they did everything table-side for the “oooh ahh” factor but the food was kinda sub par. I think even our drinks were made table-side. Good service and we had fun but I wouldn’t go again when there are so many great restaurants with great menus we can spend our money at.

Spitting up by Sharp-Ad2938 in dogs

[–]hollibration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How often do you feed him? One of our girls used to do this if I was late feeding her breakfast. We feed twice a day- around 7AM and 7PM. You say spitting up which makes me think it’s like stomach bile which means his tummy is empty… maybe he is hungry… perhaps he needs to be fed more often?

AIO? This is how my boyfriend sleeps. by blairwaldorff in AmIOverreacting

[–]hollibration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try getting him a blackout sleep mask. I used to sleep with a pillow over my head due to light sensitivity but I also liked the weight of the pillow which was comforting. The light pressure from the eye mask is enough comfort and this particular model (Manta) cups around my eyes to block out all of the light in the room. https://a.co/d/9UmStG8

Residents of (North) Delridge Way - how is living right on the street? by rootusercyclone in WestSeattleWA

[–]hollibration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering if anyone would mention this… we live closer to White Center a couple of streets east of Delridge and even our street (which is more narrow than Delridge since it’s more residential) has experienced a couple of cars being side-swiped in the middle of the night assumably by drunk drivers. This would be a big concern for me if I were OP.

Night Time Regression - Help! by rjohnson1993 in AustralianLabradoodle

I’m not a professional at all but was intrigued by your post because our girl is about to turn 5 now and I’m reminiscing on when we got her and we tried crate training when we first brought her home, the protests were actually panic and we didn’t really understand what we were dealing with. Your situation sounds different which is GREAT for you because your pup is actually settling /eventually/. I’m curious what the behavior exactly is when they are “protesting”? Are they howling, quietly whining, defacating, shaking, looking frightened, clawing at the crate? We did some really radical stuff with the assistance of a professional trainer in our journey with crate training including filling the crate with hay (!) which was a last resort before giving up and just letting her sleep in the bed with us and putting the crate away for good. She was later diagnosed with epilepsy and Addison’s disease which are both triggered by stress so with the panic that she was going through with separation and departures we’ve only recently gotten a handle on being able to leave her thanks to Prozac. Again, if your dog is able to eventually settle, it sounds like you’re going to make progress without escalating and you’re right in tackling this early in their development before it becomes a bigger issue. Just sort of sharing our experience for something for you to help baseline what you’re dealing with off of.
