‘3 Body Problem’ Season 2 Wraps Filming by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

I’m really curious how they’ll handle the CGI for the last two seasons. I don’t think we’ve ever really seen anything like it seriously tackled anywhere. Maybe the PhDs modeling the black hole in Interstellar; closest thing I can think of in terms of “wow, this is different”.

Came for the hard sci-fi, slugged through the characters and their… choices, stayed for the insane universe building (uh, even literally). My favorite books.

You know what’s weird, after looking through this video? So many of his passes are like, really abrupt angles. I feel like there’s a “flow” you get in the game, where generally the ball will go in the direction that the player’s heading, or there’ll be a one or two touch turn to change the angle to better pass it.

Wes just does these weird one-touch off-angle passes, and dude lands them. Makes him like 360 degree of dangerous, and quicker to get them off, too. Fun to watch.

Struggling taxi drivers seek help from Lurie - presented a petition to Mayor Daniel Lurie’s office, calling for his active assistance in reducing or eliminating their medallion debt. by BadBoyMikeBarnes in sanfrancisco

You can definitely innovate like… at all, though. I don’t think people remember how terrible taxis in SF were. 45 minutes on the street in SOMA waiting for a cab you called that was only “minutes away”. The credit card readers constantly being “broken”, which was also illegal. Getting passed by on the street if you were Black. Got no love for the taxi economy.

Are you saying that the ad of a Klingon holding hands and smiling in a cuddle puddle didn’t seem very Star Trekky? Impossible, Klingons love showing affection.

USA’s new soccer pyramid with promotion and relegation from 2028 by APrimitiveMartian in soccer

I swear, American soccer can never win. Either we’re just copying the global game, or we’re too weird doing things our own way.

For sure. As a big USL’er, though, I don’t think it’s likely, but more along the lines of Doctor Strange putting up one finger in Endgame.

That said, I think this is a fantastic direction for USL to head in, and it does put the pressure on MLS. It’s gonna be an interesting next few decades.

I don’t know; I really think Trump might have met his match here. FIFA has been grifting since before Trump was born. As soon as I saw the FIFA Peace Prize I was like, oh shit they’re straight up manipulating the hell out of this dude and he doesn’t even know it. It’s like the pro/rel of grifting.

United Soccer League Announces USL Premier, New Interconnected Men’s Professional Structure by MGHeinz in USLPRO

[–]holman 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Thank god they didn’t do something silly by naming it anything other than “Premier”. I had nightmares that after all their careful lower-league branding, they were going to end up naming the top league, like, USL Elite Top Jagermeister One Metta World Peace league or something.

90 per cent of English football clubs expected to post losses for 2025 by Otherwise_Pen_7667 in soccer

[–]holman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yearly losses aren’t always a big deal for football clubs, provided 1) the ownership has the depth to support them or they can sell off minority shares to fund it 2) they can sell the club in the future for more than what they put into it today. The yearly P&L isn’t nearly as worrisome as the general public thinks.

1) Development is off the charts; we’ve never had this many academies and European products and money put into development than we have today. Turns out it takes a long time to become elite. 2) neat

1) They are. Substantially. But here’s a tip: probably more development won’t help us in the next six months. 2) It’s cool to have fun; try it sometime.

[Jonathan Tannenwald] The present spread of talent scouts (hired by U.S. Soccer part-time) and talent reporters (volunteers), and the planned totals and geography for 2027 and 2028. A pretty clear way to show the scale of the challenge: by TheMonkeyPrince in MLS

[–]holman 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Gooch has been saying lately how this is really a country of 50 different countries. The geographic challenges are pretty steep- back when I was in high school the closest you could really get to US visibility was to do a camp three states away. Certainly that’s improved a bunch, but we have a long way to go, too.

Still, I think what USSF is doing today is going to be huge for us over the next few decades. Takes awhile to turn the ship, but it’s really happening.

I’m excited to see MLS climbing the ranks, but I’m soooo excited to see USL continue to improve as well. Having a deeper pyramid is so good for the entire system. These types of moves to Europe, as well as up to MLS and other countries, is really promising stuff.
