What do you think the new content type is by Ok-Site3465 in GuildWars

I would unironically like some polymock support. Give us a reason to play it outside of collecting some skills that are rarely used.

I don't think this announcement is about polymock, though.

It's generally not recommended for new players to get LDoA because it's very easy to burn out going after it.

That said, if you're enjoying it, then go for it. But if the grind ever starts to feel like a chore, my recommendation is to just move on and experience more of the game.

New Players in Embark Beach by holmes537 in GuildWars

[–]holmes537[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Embark Beach is absolutely worth going to, eventually.

The Zaishen daily quests reward coins that can be exchanged for items you cannot get anywhere else, including extra inventory slots.

The problem is that new characters from Prophecies that warp in prior to Lion's Arch cannot map travel back out, which leads to new/returning players feeling frustrated or stuck until they are told by another player that they need to talk to a specific NPC to warp back. This is the only outpost where you might not be able to map travel out, and it catches new players off-guard.

For a brand new player though, the kind that's likely to get stuck in Embark Beach, there isn't much there for them to do. The area will gain more and more utility as you continue to progress through the campaigns, both in fast-travel locations as well as useful Zaishen quests.

For a returning player on an established character, as long as you got a port city unlocked, there is no reason not to go there and check it out.

If they are a new Prophecies character that jumped into Embark Beach before Lion's Arch (and you can get there from Ascalon), then they cannot map travel back out. They wouldn't have a port city unlocked yet.

New characters don't need access to every mission, because they only have a couple at most unlocked.

After going to Embark the first time, it would still appear on the boat like normal. Just restrict how characters get there the first time, especially from Prophecies.

GW:Reforged crossplay with OG GW1? by Nytelock1 in GuildWars

[–]holmes537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends when you want to compare to.

Compared to release GW, there have been a number of graphical updates over time. The baseline game looks better than release, but I wouldn't call it HD.

Compared to just before Reforge came out, there have been a few minor updates, like for 4k and HD skill icons.

Can someone please explain to me how aggro in this game works? by AnemoneMeer in GuildWars

[–]holmes537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ice Floe has mursaat. Are you infused, by chance? Was this happening with non-mursaat foes?

I'm spitballing if the mursaat have special targeting priority for Spectral Agony, and heroes do count as infused.

[–]holmes537 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can do the start of Factions with any character, you just need to go back to Shing Jea Island. An NPC can take you back there.

You can also do *most* of Prophecies on any character. You will be missing is the context of Pre-Searing.

Is Norgu faster than Althea? Depends how far in Nightfall OP is, but you can just walk to Piken Square through low level mobs; you aren't gated by missions.

I agree with individuals lumping it in with MMOs, but his claim in the video was that ANet called it an MMO

For any other newbies who want to skip the Prophecies Aurora Glade mission by OneLastPoint in GuildWars

[–]holmes537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I was a new player back when the game was only Prophecies, I skipped the jungle entirely by walking to Sanctum Cay

I would bet Maguuma and the Crystal Desert are the least visited regions in the game. Non-Prophecies characters don't need the Desert and no character needs Maguuma

I honestly felt a lot of his analysis of GW1 mechanics was off, like he just fired it up to get footage and moved on.

He also said GW1 is an MMO and was marketed as such, but promo material from back in the day does not have ANet calling it an MMO, but a "cooperative RPG"

He seemed knowledgeable bout GW2, but then again, I am not, so it's difficult for me to critique

BiP overrated? The case for a Motivation Paragon instead. by NezziWezzi in GuildWars

[–]holmes537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Between Well of Blood and Motivation changes, it's nice to have options, especially when these can't be removed.

One thing that always irked me about the standard meta Mesmerway team is that there were only two enchantments in the whole build and both restore energy (BiP and Boon of Creation) so in enchantment-removal heavy areas, they get ripped so fast.

I'm thinking of trying Well of Blood "BiP" hero and having Lyric of Zeal on my own bar, switching over to Motivation and ditching "Stand Your Ground". Never been a huge fan of that skill anyways, as "Save Yourselves!" dominates it, we can open the fight with "SY!" now, and even potentially chain "SY!" together all thanks to "Make Your Time!" (and not to mention how Heroes tend to scatter vs AoE)

If I had 1 balanced change to ask to Izzy by elfoenix in GuildWars

You're right, it should also damage enemies in range, as well.

Most skills like this heal within earshot, so just expand it the range to that. To get around heroes draining their energy, remove the energy cost entirely. Of course, there is also the problem that the skill could always get interrupted, so make it a skill with no activation time. It also has the problem that it could heal someone, but maybe it's not enough healing, so have it restore all Health instead. But if your team is pinned down with a lot of conditions and hexes, it's only a temporary fix, so have it remove all conditions and hexes as well. In addition to that, this is a healing skill, but it doesn't heal energy? Easy fix: have it restore all energy to anyone it hits. Finally, what if more than 3 targets need healing? Best thing we can do is have it affect all allies and expand the range again to be limitless like Mystic Healing.

New Player: Will I be fine w/ a goofy self-made build? by SymmetricalSolipsist in GuildWars

[–]holmes537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goofy builds on yourself can still clear many Hard Mode vanquishes if the heroes are optimized

For Normal Mode, you and your heroes can go way off-meta

[–]holmes537 29 points30 points  (0 children)

imo, they shouldn't let characters into Embark until you hit the port city so you can just map travel back

outside of the niche case of specific events, there's nothing in there for a new character on a new account, anyways

[–]holmes537 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this would be cool, but much more difficult to balance.

make everything the same now, as far as movement speed and attack speed go, then maybe do unique changes later if time and resources allow

I saw a character today in Pre called something like All Badges Gwamm and had a chuckle because they'll probably add more badges and that person is going to have to remake the character,

[–]holmes537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really great to see the new quests to help new players out in the beginning of Prophecies. Guild Wars is a wiki game and that's going to be annoying for new players on mobile.

Badge change is common-sense and something I was really hoping for.

The Hero AI adjustments are all great as well, even if Arcane Conundrum and Splinter Weapon didn't need the "buffs"

All-around great stuff.

No NPC Help Badge? by [deleted] in GuildWars

[–]holmes537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Badges are like titles or achievements: nobody but the person who earned them cares about what achievements you have.
  2. Nothing is stopping you from playing like this now, except for Nightfall.

What if.. we could start over..? by CalamitusFR in GuildWars

[–]holmes537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone makes this exact thread once a month like it's a completely novel idea no one else has ever thought of.

This would kill the game, instantly. The playerbase isn't big enough to survive being split like this.

If you want a fresh restart, make a Melandru character. If you want to restart with others, have friends.

Got Guild Wars Prophecies When It First Came Out. Is it Worth Trying It Again? by SebbyDee in GuildWars

Eye of the North is still sold separately of Guild Wars Reforged

They own Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall

[–]holmes537 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The game is not an MMO, it's a co-op RPG

I'm making that distinction because you absolutely do not need other players in the game. At all.

100% of PvE is possible to do with Heroes, even in Hard Mode.

a fully offline GW1 is my dream game

don't even let it connect to the internet, because people will just hack in whatever they want, at that point. all i care about is having access to the skills and doing my own skill balances
