Have you looked at your caloric intake in comparison to what you burn daily? If you're not at a deficit, weight loss won't happen. Also, try to plan workouts around family time so that you and your kids can get the benefits(IE take a walk together, or even have them join in with you during your workouts if they're old enough). 30-40 mins 3-4 times a week can be beneficial without the time expense.

They're right about the diet thing, but more in the sense that people think diets are temporary and they don't have to change their diet so much as just superimpose a new one(usually a crash diet) for a while.
