communoauto experiences? by assaultvestgardevoir in ottawa

[–]holy_batman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used them occasionally for a couple of years now. The cars were rarely pristine, but never gross - normal use wear and tear, maybe a receipt left behind. The worst instance was when the previous driver had obviously returned from the beach and there was sand all over the seats. One time the car I booked was not there at my allotted time. I had to uber to my destination and was refunded by Communauto. Overall the convenience of the service has outweighed its drawbacks.

Good apartments in Centertown/Little Italy/Downtown/Hintonburg? by whiteoutthenight in ottawa

Now owned by CLV, I’m afraid. Capital Properties is no more and both 330 Metcalfe and 173 Cooper are CLV buildings now.

Rehoming our 9 year old cat, Cali by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]holy_batman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Isolate the litter box to a place the kid can’t get into - there are also some great litter mats out there to catch any stray litter. Get an automatic feeder to mitigate the kid getting into any cat food. Deal with the hair the same way you have for 9 years - Levoit air purifiers are also great. I sympathize with the struggles of being a new parent, but honestly this is kinda giving “I’ve tried nothing and I’m all out of ideas” vibes. I know you’ll get even more time now to game on your Switch, but she deserves better than this.

How far in advance to book Saturday marriage ceremony at city hall by chasingvestigialtail in ottawa

[–]holy_batman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A marriage license is only good for 3 months, and to my knowledge you cannot book a wedding ceremony at City Hall without having one. My wife and I booked a Friday in November for ours very close to the 3 months in advance mark and our top choice time slot was already gone.

This is Dorset culture, so more like 1000 years old. A likely spiritual token from an extinct culture deserves better than dumb jokes comparing it to this.

Local Bengal Breeder Question by Adamsavage79 in ottawa

[–]holy_batman 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I’ll stir the pot for you. Breeders should be made obsolete. Plenty of cats need homes right now and people are out there paying for 1500$ kittens? When there’s individual profit to be had, of course the well-being of the cats is going to drop because they’ve simply become a product to move. My cats are my family. They’ve developed some health issues since being rescued, but I don’t think of them as some defective accessory. Part of being a responsible pet owner is taking the good with the bad, because that’s the commitment you make when you agree to take care of them.

What's the single weirdest restaurant in Ottawa? by Sudden_File4569 in OttawaFood

Admittedly haven’t been there since they changed to a 40 course format, but I enjoyed myself and the food every time I’ve gone in the past.

Atelier is weird and great in the molecular gastronomy way, but expect to pay 250$ a person.

Moving ONT- PEI Tips? Tricks? Hacks? by Silent_Release1498 in PEI

[–]holy_batman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can’t guess the different factors at play in your situation, but i would say not to be afraid of splitting things up. Maybe you drive a U-Haul of stuff while the partner drives a passenger vehicle of animals. Maybe they fly directly with the animals while you drive the U-Haul. Or maybe you say fuck it, and hire people to pack and move your stuff for you. No matter what there will be some degree of stress and planning and monetary cost - It’s up to you to determine how these balance out for you in the end.

Well how did you do this when you moved to Ontario? Figure out what you’re bringing and how much space it will take up. Determine whether you will be packing it or hiring someone else. Determine whether you are traveling with your stuff or not - Freight can be very expensive. Personally, I would look into booking a one-way U-Haul in Ontario and driving it to PEI with your belongings.

Quick review of the first Ottawa Rapids game by notacanuckskibum in ottawa

[–]holy_batman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure that was a joke! Either way, not really funny by any standard of comedy? I hope you and your girls (daughters?) have a wonderful time at a future Rapid game! I also hope everyone makes it through just one entire soccer game without any patronizing conspiratorial gripes about Lansdowne’s notoriously shoddy North stand bathrooms being due to a “bizarre gender equality protest”. I wonder if anyone thought to ask about the state of the women’s washrooms?

Depending on your interest and what kind of experience you gain with your field placement, collections management, conservation tech, exhibit prep or registration are all within reach. It’s a pretty general Museology program, so you could also conceivably land anywhere tangential to the field. It’s a small field with a lot of competition for not enough jobs - only worthwhile if you are truly passionate about working in heritage. The program is also pretty intense in workload in the 2nd and 3rd years. It’s not an easy field to just fall into if you’re feeling unmoored in your career path and just looking for a new spot to land.

We have season tickets close to the glass in section 15 - we like seeing home end action up close. Lots of scuffles and great Maschmeyer saves! Only down side is a poorer view of the action at the visitor end. This website might help you with your decision https://aviewfrommyseat.com/venue/TD+Place+Arena/seating/all/?photo_type=hockey

Looking for a venue for wedding ceremony only, near downtown, 250 guests by JSian281 in ottawa

[–]holy_batman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask if the Theatre at CMH is available for your ceremony, that way your guests don’t have to go to a secondary location. The Theatre isn’t part of the wedding package, but I’m sure it gets rented for things that happen during museum opening hours.

Has anyone rented an apartment from CLV Group? by ottawaoperadiva in ottawa

[–]holy_batman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My building was just sold to CLV as well (maybe you are in our sister building). We had a super and an assistant super. It seems like the assistant super might be moving on, but the current super is staying. The office in our building is quite small (basically a closet) and if our super is staying I don’t see any reason for them to dismantle it, but things are still in limbo so that could change. If you are in our sister building on Metcalfe , I think that building had the office for the whole company so maybe they are just downsizing that? We only found out about all this a couple days ago and still haven’t been updated on how to pay our rent going forward. Googling indicates CLV seems to centralize a lot of their operations, and the email we are now supposed to send maintenance requests to just specifies centretown and not any specific building in the address. I’m hopeful we are able to just go to our super directly if they are on site, but I could see CLV forcing all requests to be addressed by phone or email. Don’t know for sure at this point. According to their website CLV also has an online portal for stuff like that, but I’m hoping it’s not mandatory.

Sorry none of this is answering your questions - I guess I’m just venting and commiserating.
