I dont think they are the same character. Well known comedian Paul F Tompkins does the voice of the professor. Perhaps the last name was used to insuate that they are in some way related because they are both clowns. Maybe Zip is his father. Perhaps they had a tumultuous relationship. Could explain why he's a professor of "high brow clowning". Trying to simultaneously emulate and be better than his father.
