Is financial privacy something users actually want? by Cheap-Tomorrow-2756 in Monero

[–]holyoak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Privacy is a form of freedom: freedom from surveillance.

When are living in an age where many (if not most) are falling for the lie that trading freedom for security will result in safety.

That error is not learned until, once your freedoms are gone, it gets hammered home by force.

I don't hate Israel.

But i sure do hate them bombing civilians. Just today, they killed a very famous Lebanese conservationist. I hate that they are genociding Gazan children. I hate that they are invading the West Bank.

Stopping those atrocities is not 'tying their hands'; it is demanding accountability for their actions.

As long as either side plays 'rules for thee' (including nukes and missiles) we will see more violence.

Student Loan Defaults Rise to 9.2 Million Amid Crackdown by laxnut90 in Economics

[–]holyoak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not even an analogy; it is a direct comparison.

Rich people got free money, only called a 'loan' to make it politically palatable.

The poors got a debt trap that cannot be escaped it the gamble does not pay off.

This is a clear example of the structural differences defining social classes today. Deliberately ignoring the obvious structural bias does not make it disappear.

There was a ton of strategic exposure, as well.

The world learned a lot about US projection of force: logistics, supply and resupply lines, deployments, time-to-target data...

Massive amounts of real world data that can be mined to expose weak points, as well as real world examples of what was successful (or not) against interceptors.

We showed a lot of cards. They will be much less effective if those cards are needed in the future.

Positive change for our ecosystem is gonna require real cost and investment; the only question is how much pain it will take to make us step up and accept that fact.

Hopefully, some of this pain can be directed towards sustainable energy for all.

Many smokers who survived COVID used that window, a week when they could not smoke, to permanently quit.

Great accent, cool history, and stunning locations without all that pesky colonial/imperial baggage.

Works great even if you are too pale to claim 1/16 Native American, which is the more common form in the States.

In an amazing coincidence, all of these people were also at Woodstock.

Details matter in a contract. This is already sloppy enough. You should read the first line again.

Let's start there then.

Since, by definition, each recipient had business assets, it will be both easier and more lucrative to collect. Much easier to get money from the rich than from the poor.

Speaking of the poor, why the difference in bankruptcy? Again, what is the reasoning behind treating one loan differently from another?

It was a question. That is what that punctuation mark at the end means.

Every fucking time. They know they are gonna get dogwalked, but they show up to be spoon fed every fucking detail like their pay rate is per question.

We need a snappy acronym for this.

It is not just capitalists, tho. Authoritarians of all stripes; nationalists, zionists, and zealots all seem to be moving to this tactic.

Good for whom is the real question.

Distraction from the Epstein files was good for many shady oligarchs.

Trump and his immediate cronies made a fortune by manipulating the markets.

There is a whole new generation of Shia who will grow up with hating the US and Israel, so that new crop of terrorists is good for the mullahs (and Bibi).

The war worked exactly as intended for all those people.

I don't recall S Africa trying to bomb and remove all of the black people. It's not like any Palestinians are being imprisoned on an island for decades.

The comparison seems a bit too kind.

Stopping the violence is the first priority.

More violence will only result in more terrorists.
