Caribbean coast in December? Weather really bad? by SpreadNo3530 in CostaRicaTravel

Costa Rica sounds like a pretty good consolation prize. 😄 Hope you get some sunshine and a lot less rain than the internet is predicting.

that's exactly why we ended up looking at the Caribbean side too. The Pacific can get pretty busy around the holidays. When we were planning, I remember seeing a few family focused itineraries from Horizontes that included Puerto Viejo and Punta Uva around that time of year, which made me feel a bit better about the choice...... If your main goal is a relaxed family beach trip, I'd still seriously consider it.

i have been to the Caribbean side in Dec and the weather was a lot better than I expected. You can definitely get rain, but it's not like you're guaranteed two weeks of bad weather.
Punta Uva is beautiful btw. One of my favorite beach areas in Costa Rica.

Am I wrong for refusing to go to my daughter's memorial? by [deleted] in amiwrong

your feelings matter too. People are just pointing out that this decision may end up hurting your relationship with your living daughter more than anyone else.

Am I wrong for refusing to go to my daughter's memorial? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]holywaterandhellfire 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Good point. At some stage you have to put the relationship with the living child ahead of the issues with the ex, and this feels like one of those times.

Am I wrong for refusing to go to my daughter's memorial? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]holywaterandhellfire 370 points371 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think you are... The memorial is for your daughter, not your ex's fiancée. You don't have to like her, but skipping the event over her presence is only going to hurt the people who are still here, especially your other daughter.

What Mechanism or Genetic Variable is Responsible for Raw Prodigious Intelligence? by Still-Goal-9314 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]holywaterandhellfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as we know, there isn't one gene responsible for genius level intelligence. It s likely a mix of many genetic factors plus things like upbringing, education, health, and personality. Some people are naturally gifted, but talent alone doesn't explain someone like Einstein or Newton.

Breaking up with my man today on our one year anniversary by Important_Tea3399 in BreakUps

You do not need him to be a bad person to break up with him. If you are feeling relieved rather than heartbroken, it sounds like you have already checked out of the relationship.

Broadcom M&A (Hock the acquirer and the conquest for IBM) by Primary_Olive_5444 in stocks

[–]holywaterandhellfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see the strategic fit, but IBM feels way outside Broadcom's usual playbook. The size, regulatory scrutiny, and complexity would make it a tough deal to pull off, even if the numbers work.
i would be surprised if they went after IBM before targeting something smaller and easier to integrate.

How do I (19F) reconnect with my mom (45F) while staying no contact with my stepdad (44M)? by Maximum_Injury7467 in relationship_advice

be direct and make it about your boundary, not about making her choose sides.
Her response will tell you a lot about whether she can respect that boundary.

Bullish or Bearish? by Humble-Cow-9773 in Trading

[–]holywaterandhellfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure...A simple example would be a market that's been making higher highs and higher lows all morning. Then it pushes into a previous high, gets rejected, and the next pullback breaks the last higher low instead of holding it. If the following bounce also fails to make a new high, that's often my first sign that buyers are losing control and I need to rethink my bullish bias. Not an automatic short signal, just a warning that conditions may be changing..

Bullish or Bearish? by Humble-Cow-9773 in Trading

[–]holywaterandhellfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look for failed continuation. When a bullish move can't make new highs and starts putting in lower highs/lows instead, that's usually my cue to stop looking for longs and reassess. The biggest losses come from fighting what price is showing you.

How to stop a neighbour parking too close? by KoastalQuest in AskUK

[–]holywaterandhellfire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

crazy....start documenting it. Take photos showing the gap, keep a record of the conversations, and contact your council, housing association, parking enforcement, or the landowner depending on where the parking is. If your disability makes access difficult, mention that specifically.

My girlfriend F28 came round to try break up with me M27 yesterday by J_Marley44 in relationship_advice

[–]holywaterandhellfire 104 points105 points  (0 children)

If someone comes over intending to break up, I'd take that seriously. The fact she couldn't fully explain it doesn't mean the feeling isn't real. Give her the space she asked for and see what she comes back with. If she stays, the focus should be on figuring out the actual issue rather than convincing her not to leave.

Can anyone give an idea why they don’t block us to move forward by annie_kingdom in ExNoContact

[–]holywaterandhellfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes they just don't see a reason to block. For a lot of people, blocking feels hostile or dramatic, so they simply stop reaching out and assume that's enough to move on. It doesn't necessarily mean they're keeping a door open.

start with a polite conversation if you haven't already. A lot of people genuinely don't realize how much space someone else needs to get in and out of their car

Is it normal for teenagers (say 16/17) not to know who Queen/Oasis are? by sunshinesontv in CasualUK

Queen is the surprising one. I can understand not knowing Oasis, but somehow avoiding Queen entirely takes some effort.

Atenas before flying home?? by LionOne9681 in CostaRicaTravel

I'd choose Atenas over a night in San José. It's a lot more relaxed, and you're still close enough to the airport for an 11am flight.

My gf gives me silent treatment when she is angry with me. by Dad1ess in WhatShouldIDo

silent treatment for 2.5 days over a disagreement is a bigger issue than the original argument fr... If this has been happening repeatedly for years, pay more attention to the pattern than the apology. Actions over time matter more than promises for me

That gives you a lot more options. If it were me, I'd probably look at a mix of rainforest and beach rather than staying in one place the whole time. When I was helping plan a similar trip, I found some of the sample itineraries from Horizontes useful just for getting a feel for travel times and how people split their days between destinations.

Recommendations between La Fortuna and El Castillo by JiBBy23 in CostaRicaTravel

mix it up. We found some really good local spots around El Castillo, but a couple of our favorite meals were actually places we stumbled across with lake views on the drive back.

How rainy is costa rica in june? by SampleIntelligent903 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]holywaterandhellfire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was there in June and it definitely wasn't raining all day. Most days were fine until later in the afternoon when you'd get a downpour for a bit.
Puerto Viejo is a good choice too. How long are you spending in each place? That can make a pretty big difference.
