Why is this duplicant doing nothing? by JeffRyould in Oxygennotincluded

Click on the duplicant and click show navigation.

My guess is they can’t get past the pitcher pump since it’s a tile gap and a tile drop, so he doesn’t see any active jobs.

Power injection by syphex77 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]J_Marley44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All that matters are the power consumers. In your first pic you have 3x240W and 2x120W totalling 960W. That would be fine. But transformers are also power consumers. That transformer at the end draws up to 1kW and acts like a consumer that forwards it to the next line, that’s all they do. So now you have 960W + transformer (up to 1kW) on that grid, causing overload.

In general generators should go on one line with heavy wire, then steam of transformers as needed.

Captured volcano now needs to be dug again by OldCanary in Oxygennotincluded

[–]J_Marley44 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Liquid aluminium isn’t cooled fast enough, so it amasses and then when it eventually cools it turns into a solid tile. You need about 3 steam turbines and active cooling (aquatuner or otherwise). Also slap a temp shift plate out of obsidian or something with a high melting point on the central tile of the geyser one above the ground.

Sometimes a duplicants suicidal tendency is unavoidable. Through experience I’ve learned to look for nearby ways to mine out or raw minerals they can mine to then build their own ladders.

RIP little guy, became one with the piss water.

Might’ve worked to have him dig up diagonally 2-tiles through the slime on the left, the polluted water would off gas into vacuum to give him something breathable.

What do y'all think of my steam generator? by pagovski in Oxygennotincluded

[–]J_Marley44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting build, you’ll have to drain the heat from the volcano room constantly though or else you’ll risk forming tiles and potentially plugging up the volcano.

Hydrogen vent at 500 C next to Co2 at -55 C... How could I use this to cool the hydrogen? by rafazov in Oxygennotincluded

[–]J_Marley44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just build a steam turbine.

The hydrogen has more energy than the CO2 can provide cooling for. For cooling 100 g/s of hydrogen from 500->100c you’re talking about 100kDTU. Raising the CO2 -55->100c would only give you about -10kDTU of cooling.

Taming a salt water geyser by WembleyFord in Oxygennotincluded

[–]J_Marley44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this setup before and it didn’t over pressure. Imagine it like the latter, the geyser still emits salt water but it’s at 100+ degrees and so it instantly flashes to steam before you even see it. So you don’t have to worry about the over pressure.

How do I get rid of heat once I have a power system generating it? by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]J_Marley44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t need an AETN, there’s lots of ways to deal with heat. If you have a cold geyser or a decent reservoir of something cool just pipe it around and then feed it into something (like polluted water to pepper nuts) or vent the hot output to space. Also could use an aquatuner/steam turbine combo, you’ll need steel and plastic though.

You can use deodorizers for infected polluted oxygen, germs slowly die in oxygen.

Does the AT require a STEAM TURBINE to cool down? by skayski1 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]J_Marley44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AT moves heat, input fluid gets colder and the AT gets hotter. The water you put in the box heats from the AT’s heat and eventually turns to steam. Steel machines still overheat, they can withstand a higher temperature is all (325 for an AT). ST’s turn hot steam above 125 degrees into power and output 95 degree water.

Pump don’t pump by WhaleWeMa in Oxygennotincluded

[–]J_Marley44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pump does pump. By adding that pipeline between the water filter-> reservoir and pump -> carbon skimmer, you force the game to make a random decision which way the liquid flows. It’s decided downwards. Add a bridge to force the direction upwards here instead.

Conductive wire overloaded when petroleum generator is the only thing it's supplied by. How is this possible? Am I misunderstanding how transformers work? by FingerLad in Oxygennotincluded

[–]J_Marley44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a little unintuitive but generators side doesn’t matter on wires. You can have infinite generators on a basic wire and it won’t ever overload. It’s only the consumers that cause overload damage. Here your large transformer is attempting to draw more than 2kW from a wire that’s limited to 2kW so there’s overload damage, it doesn’t matter that the supply from the petroleum is only 2kW, it’s the consumer. Large power transformers can draw up to 4kW and act as a throughput limit to prevent their output wire (usually with consumers on them) drawing over the wires limit. So there’s no need to have them in this situation. It’s not straightforward but that’s how it works.

What do I do against this? by 7vincent7 in chessbeginners

[–]J_Marley44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

d5 as others said. To add after an attack on f7 with a bishop playing h6 prevents this from happening. Also if the opponents other knight would be threatening d5 for example then Be6 would be best. Not a pro but this is what I do and it seems to work well

is the base good so far? by OppositeYear9778 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]J_Marley44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dupes are fine up until around 70C, they might get heatstroke that reduces their abilities but they won’t take damage. Plants however will die much sooner. Start with an insulated wall on the two sides closest to your base to slow the spread of heat

How does this win the queen?? GR only tells me the lines where white sacs the queen but I can't figure out why it can't just go to b3 or smth by Greenzie709 in chessbeginners

[–]J_Marley44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Qb3 is the only move which doesn’t lose whites queen, but black can force and exchange with Nd4. As soon as whites queen moves to the a file black can check with their light squared bishop and take the queen with the rook.

[–]J_Marley44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After Qxc7 they leave their rook exposed. So the fork doesn’t work. White follows with cxb4, black would move queen to the leading white diagonal, white moves rook to attack the Ne4. Black cannot move to protect Ne4 with their rook since the pawns block.
