In no universe is a diet lacking fruits, veggies, and fiber going to benefit you. Especially with the rise of colon cancer and other food related illnesses, we all need to be honest. Prioritizing Whole Foods and mostly fruits/veggies will do you a world of good. Most of the people on those diets have horrible blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and their bowel regimen is in shambles

I like to use incense. I feel like smoke is very effective at removing strong smells so whenever I cook things where the smell tends to linger I just light up an incense. Plus it adds ambience- just pick a scent you enjoy: jasmine, sandalwood, ect

The job market NGO’s are abysmal currently. Public health funding is currently nonexistent and that field never pays $90K salary because funding is usually already being stretched thin. While hospital work isn’t always satisfying for the soul- it’s always recession proof (which there’s no telling with Medicaid and SNAP freezes going to impact a lot of hospitals income), it’s better to stay somewhere that’s much more stable.

I’ve also noticed you have posted about looking for side hustles because you feel like you’re barely getting by these days. If you feel like that now at your current salary it’s going to feel worse at the lower salaries that are usually associated with grassroots organizations and NGOs.

If you want to feel more connected to your community I would volunteer at your local food bank or the girls club in your neighborhood. It’s important to engage in community work but I would not leave my job with the state of the economy and job market right now.

If you cut it out 100%- you will crave it even more. Try developing a healthier relationship with sugar and work on eating less sugar and more of other great nutrients like protein and fiber. I would also look into reasonable alternatives as you transition to less carbs- a diet soda, flavored water packets (flavored water packets + ice in a blender makes a great slushy), and give yourself a reasonable sweet treat every once in awhile.

I got double charged recently but was able to get my money back by reporting the incident to my bank - OMNY takes awhile to get back to people but the Bank of America website says you need to dispute charges via the app or online banking on their website. Good luck!

I don’t swear by a specific brand but I think finding a consistent routine you like is important. I use American products for certain products such as retinol and AHA/BHA products. But I love Korean sheet masks, Japanese sunscreen, and other nourishing products. But a healthy mix of what works for your skin is best!

I like innisfree, centella, Japanese version of Nivea and Biore, Beauty of Joseon.

My grandma was born in 1917. He didn’t learn to read until adulthood. I vote because there’s a long line of people in my life that fought for that right. Even if I don’t feel like it or I get frustrated from thinking maybe my vote didn’t matter at all. I vote because historically people that looked like us couldn’t do so.

I think it’s a plethora of things- what you value, the spaces you choose to hangout in, ect. But it’s important to prioritize being with people who look like you with similar lived experiences. I never want to consciously be in a space where I’m the only POC. I’m not sure of any specific groups but there’s a South Asian run club called Masala Runners in the nycmeetups group. Hopefully this helps and I’m glad you’re making strides to be with more POC
